Wasserman Schultz Threatened Police Chief For Gathering Evidence On Her IT Staffer’s Alleged Crimes.

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz threatened the chief of the U.S. Capitol Police with “consequences” for holding equipment that she says belongs to her in order to build a criminal case against a Pakistani staffer suspected of massive cybersecurity breaches involving funneling sensitive congressional data offsite.

The Florida lawmaker used her position on the committee that sets the police force’s budget to press its chief to relinquish the piece of evidence Thursday, in what could be considered using her authority to attempt to interfere with a criminal investigation.

Though on the surface Wasserman Schultz would have been a victim of Awan’s scam, she has inexplicably protected him, circumventing the network ban by re-titling him as an “adviser” instead of technology administrator.
Politico described him and his wife, Hina Alvi, as having a “friendly personal relationship” with both Wasserman Schultz and Rep. Gregory Meeks of New York.
That baffled a Democratic IT staffer, who said “I can’t imagine why she’d be that good of friends with a technology provider.”
“Usually if someone does bad stuff, an office is going to distance themselves” rather than incur political fallout for a mere staffer, he added.

Now, I'm no expert on law enforcement jurisdiction but doesn't this seem like it should be handled by the Feds rather than the D.C. Police?

Outside of her district, Wasserman-Schultz, has lost much of her goodwill as a result of her shenanigans at the DNC. Her unpopularity makes her an easy target for disdain... but none of us have figured out how to knock her out of office. Maybe this latest story can turn into a scandal!

Given the suspicious behavior of the feds, would you want them touching any investigation in this day and age? The D.C. police aren't much better, but at least they can't be easily swayed by politicians.

A federal employee with knowledge of the situation and who requested anonymity told The Daily Caller News Foundation's Investigative Group that as House authorities closed in on Imran Awan and his brothers, a laptop used by Imran was hidden in an unused crevice of the Rayburn House Office Building. Wasserman Schultz's office is in Longworth House Office Building, a separate structure.

The laptop was later found by Capitol Police and seized because it was relevant to the criminal investigation, the source said.

Oh I know what the Daily Caller is ... Tucker Carlson and all ... and I know they're RW.
But I also know they've been pretty reliable with their reporting.
As for the reliability of this story, there is that video and her bizarre outsized eagerness to get that laptop back.

Daily Caller has been covering this story for months. I haven't heard anything about it in the MSM.
Debbie W. Schultz sure seems really concerned over what is on that laptop. The story is not so 'hazy' if one takes the time to read all the related links to the story which covers the reporting from the beginning.

The feds seem to be using the "just us" system when it comes to investigating their own. When congress makes the rules then they are quite free to exempt themselves (and their friends?) from them. ;)

I suspect there's probably more twists and turns to this story, and more high level people involved, than we know about at this point. It should make for interesting reading if and when whatever is on that laptop ever becomes public! Threatening a Police Chief doesn't seem like the brightest move anyone could make either! :no:

The second best thing to come out of this would be for citizens to see just how many patronage posts there are and how much they are costing us. They are all over the place, sucking at the taxpayers teat.

That is only the tip of the iceberg of government waste - many so called government "workers" simply supervise contractors who do the actual work thus the taxpayers pay two computer programmers to write code; one that simply warms a chair and one that does the code writing. You may think that making these supervisors oversee several contractors would be a better idea but then they would be considered to be project/program managers/directors and require a big raise, a private office complex, a travel budget and a support staff. ;)
