Students demand University of Chicago to fund race-specific housing

The ultimatum also asks for a set of “university-funded and run cultural houses said:

In the past the U of Chicago has told these snowflakes to go pound sand. Hope they keep their resolve.
 
Rosa Parks fought hard to end a part of segregation, and some people are now fighting hard to bring it back. And the ones trying to bring it back are actually black. Surprising.

I think everyone should have their own house, if they don't want to live in a fraternity house and they can pay for it.

Hmm...make a jab at racists and yet ignores the fact that these people are wanting segregation. Which was fought against by Civil Rights Leaders because it was racist.

The difference here is they want the university to fund the houses and its segregated by race and white people dont get anything.

Theres no equal here when one race is being excluded.

If i told you every race except for black people will get a dorm room fully paid for how would sociaty react?

It's a little different telling someone they have to live together. The civil rights leaders never managed to stop 'white flight' Therefore, that particular demand might even be welcomed by the white students, at least if the prejudices of the "real world" is any indication

I find most of their doublespeak to be preposterous though - "diversity and inclusion requirement" combined with race-centric departments and, indeed, segregated housing

I don't see it as difficult in the situation of a college/university or any other apartment like complex.

"You either live here or find your own place off campus/somewhere else, don't like it? Tough."

Outside of a college or other apartment like complex, yeah sure. Can't do that. People have a right to live where they want so long as they can afford it and don't try to interfere with other peoples right to live where they want.

And yes they're "doublespeak" as you call it (I'd call it something much different) is preposterous and if I was running the place I'd tell em "tough" for one and for the other I'd tell them that we already have diversity and inclusion.

You just can't make this stuff up.

In contrast to its own appeals for money to fund the new initiatives, UChicago United also requests that “limits and/or restrictions” should be placed “on the funding allotted to student organizations that are accused and/or found guilty of discriminatory behavior.”

Finally, the set of demands concludes with specific requests for illegal immigrant students, asking for an increase in the “recruitment and admission” of “undocumented Latinx students,” as well as “full financial, legal, and mental health resources” for such students.

Hmm... limiting funding based on accusations sounds reasonable. Using that suggested concept on these loons I would accuse them of discriminatory behavior and refuse to fund this nonsense. ;)

It certainly sounds fair to treat undocumented "Latinx" students differently than any other undocumented students. The question is - how does any undocumented student establish that status? I deserve special treatment because I will provide you with no documents while speaking Spanish. ;)

you would have huge protests and cries of racism would be everywhere.

there was another group of students doing this in UCLA I think or USC.
they wanted the same thing.

I am like the school can't. that would be discrimination.

this is popping up more and more. this isn't the first time I have seen a news article on this. it is happening around bigger campuses.
however what these kids don't understand is that the school legally can't do it.

the law works both ways it is not a one way street.

to exclude other students from the same thing based on race would be discrimination.

no one said that their argument was logical. it is all an appeal to emotion.
 
"Separate but equal" is making a comeback. All the gains of recent decades tossed right out the window. Isn't the first I've heard of stuff like this, and I doubt it'll be the last.

Frankly I think U. Chicago should simply expel these agitators. They can go segregate to schools like Berkeley, UMICH, and UCLA.

It's obvious that Ethnic and Gender studies don't require any knowledge of civil rights.
