The former leader of the free world is suddenly facing intense criticism.
Barack Obama has accepted a $400,000 speaking fee for a Wall Street conference that will be hosted by Cantor Fitzgerald LP, according to a report by Fox Business.

This is almost twice as much as the speaking fees Hillary Clinton charged for three speeches to Goldman Sachs after she left the State Department. She later came under immense criticism during her campaign for receiving so much money to speak to Wall Street firms.

Barack Obama?s $400,000 speech to Wall Street sparks liberal blowback - Salon.com

Mr. Hope & Change is raking in the big bucks now, as he's going to be richly rewarded for his 8 years of service to Big Bidness.

All this just illustrates how much Democrats and Republicans have in common.

The Wall Street fat cats and wealthy elites feasted under Obama reigns.

Dont see the problem at all. These so called "liberals" need to get a life, if they even exist. Sounds more like a right wing fantasy than reality. Plus it is a great distraction for the millions Trump rakes in a day from the US taxpayer.

Singers get paid more than that for a concert. The pay needs to be viewed in such context.

More accurately, it needs to be viewed in the context of this being a guy who retains considerable influence and clout in the Democratic party, and remains as one of its de facto leaders... which is precisely a big part of why he's being paid such an amount, nevermind the enticement it presents for existing and future POTUSes. Obama certainly should catch hell for this sort of thing.

He's a celebrity. There's a couple dozen people that get paid more than 400k for a single event, several 1 million+, in the list above.

You honestly believe that these bankers are neither trying to buy influence nor indirectly attempting to entice others whatsoever with this payout? That it isn't even a factor or consideration? Celebrity he may be, but what use does a banker have for a speech from Obama beyond the influence such a payout can afford?

Oh, please. Stop pretending it's bribe money.

It's cheaper to get Obama to come to your party than Kanye West. Lady Gaga would be twice as much.

The elite are out to take as much as they can get, yes sir....

Who's pretending? It fits the trend of other well-positioned high profile Dem leaders and functionaries repeatedly getting paid large sums to address Wall Street and other corporate interests that invariably were favourable towards them. The nature of the transaction is so obvious that it can hardly be called implicit anymore. Further, that Kanye West as a highly popular A-list international celebrity gets paid more for public appearances by a diversity of audiences that go well beyond the likes of Goldman Sachs and other companies (who, other than their sponsored PACs/thinktanks and universities about exclusively pay out to politicos like Obama for talks) doesn't mean getting paid less by an investment firm is suddenly free and clear of any suspicion or impropriety.

If you don't think that these situations present any kind of conflict of interest or potential for corruption, you're kidding yourself.

She wrote of the “revolving door” of executives who work on Wall Street for 20 years, then work in the Treasury for a bit, and then head right back to Wall Street.

“The giant payouts that they give to people to go work in government are just stunning. I mean, millions of dollars,” Warren said.

She wasn’t finished. Not by a long shot.

“Money pervades. It’s whose phone calls do you take. It’s who you see in the evenings. It’s who are your old friends,” Warren told Klein. “It’s every part of it, so that the rich and the powerful are incredibly well-represented, not just at the top in the White House but all the way through government in this town.

While there are many means by which Dems and Reps are two sides of the same coin, giving speeches to banks is mostly a Democratic thing. Republicans just flat out take bribes.

What BS.

Do you not understand how much a world famous celebrity gets for an event? It's just a banker concert.

Nevermind that Obama himself said that money invariably corrupts and changes politicians in his book, the Audacity of Hope, while dominating political discourse; the dude acknowledges the problem and immediately dives into it full bore.

What BS.

Do you not understand that these talks are routinely used as a means of currying favour by special interests? Or that politicos are again almost exclusively hired out by them for such addresses? Or that furnishing such money on a politician creates a sense of ingratiation and the desire to placate and pander for more of the same?

Obama was never one to deny himself anything.

Conservatives are now quoting and putting their faith in Warren? haha

He doesn't want to wind up broke like the Clintons were when they left the White House.

Do bankers have concerts? See the problem with your argument is that these Wall Street guys and gals are mercenaries, they are in it for themselves, and they dont want to see big payouts to people not themselves unless there is a good reason. The corruption of our government in their interests is a good cause...they think. A ton of money going to pay Beyonce maybe not.

The money paid for the event is entirely reasonable.

Stop with the conspiracy theory.

Oh for sure, Obama did so much for them, they are getting their monies worth........ anyone else and a whole bunch of them would be in jail right now.

Ya, but it"s not like he is going to have to buy a beer or an airplane ride or a week all inclusive vacay in Bali anytime soon...... there are so many people who want to give him things, for varying reasons.

Big O's gonna get paid. He's going to get that money. And good on him. What might squeeze peoples grapes is where that money is coming from.

Asked for a comment Bernie Sanders showed his upset. "I mean, come on...how many homes does one man need?"

Its all relative. BO just spent a month on a boys towen fantasy Island while he was 'writing his memoirs'...a task that is expected to net him about 30 million. Hes goin to be riiiiiiiiiiiiiich. And then he'll talk a lot about the pooooooooooooooor...about whom he has proven he doesnt give a f****************************.

Conservatives are now against making money and they're listening to Warren. And all it took was Obama getting paid for a speech. Amazing.
