Barack Obama’s $400,000 Speech to Wall Street Sparks Liberal Blowback

Conservatives are now against making money and they're listening to Warren. And all it took was Obama getting paid for a speech. Amazing.

I am a lefty, and I am against injustice and corruption.

Well, he is a good speaker.

Mr. Hope & Change is raking in the big bucks now, as he's going to be richly rewarded for his 8 years of service to Big Bidness.

All this just illustrates how much Democrats and Republicans have in common.

Power to the people?

Says the guy with the $600,000 vacation home on the lake.

He should be able to pull in as much as Clinton did. What was that? $ 100 millions in 10 years?

So what?

The guy is completely out of politics now....what's it to you what he gets for a speech?

There is a galactic difference between out-of-politics Obama getting money for speeches and running-for-POTUS Clinton getting big bucks for speeches.

Singers get paid more than that for a concert. The pay needs to be viewed in such context.

Want to know the difference between those celebrities payments vs Obama getting this payment?

Tens of thousands of people bought tickets to watch and listen to those celebrities. That's where the money comes from. James Taylor for instance completely filled Fenway Park once which holds over 37 thousand people.

Where as at most a couple hundred wall street elites are paying to hear Obama speak.

Now, as far as him making this much money just for speaking? Seems stupid to me that anyone would pay that much to hear ANYONE speak on wall street issues. But be that as it may if he gets that much I don't care. More power to him..... As long as he stays out of any type of political office. If he gets back into some political office or other then it could become a problem as it could be seen as a pay to play scheme much like what Hillary is accused of doing. Particularly if he starts doing the same thing as Hillary and taking speaking engagements in other countries.

So that's two differences there. So the context that you're looking to place this in is not an appropriate analogy.

He's a former president...he should get paid the big bucks for his speeches.

Obama can get what he wants for a speech although I would prefer that he no longer has influence on the lives of the public.

As for your list, promoters definitely pay these artists with the intention of selling tickets to the public and making more than enough to pay those amounts. How much do you figure Cantor Fitzgerald is going to make by Obama's speech in order to cover the expense?

Particularly if he starts doing the same thing as Hillary and taking speaking engagements in other countries.

What if Hillary had owned or branded commercial real estate in other countries?

What are you talking about? It's common knowledge that Obama could have done much more than he did while in office. Any liberal or Democrat that think Wall Street didn't line Obama's campaign pockets with millions is either delusional or, at the very least, not well informed.

Funny how Cons love people who make money and celebrate the rich until it's someone they don't like making money.

They voted in a billionaire for POTUS, but now they criticize and piss and moan because the previous POTUS makes 100,000's for a speech. What a bunch of hypocritical wussies.

And he is doing it without a faux foundation. Impressive.

the only difference between a Democrat & Republican is the shade of the wrapper; they are at heart cut from the same POS clothe

funny how so many label me as a liberal ....... LO*L ....... I have been voting third party for nearly THREE decades .......

Dont see the problem at all. These so called "liberals" need to get a life, if they even exist. Sounds more like a right wing fantasy than reality. Plus it is a great distraction for the millions Trump rakes in a day from the US taxpayer.

Your post is fantasy as usual. Obama spoke out big against Wall St fatcats all through his administration. Now the ****ing hypocrite is taking their money to talk to them.

I believe the thread is about liberals crying about Obama making big money from Wall Street, not "cons" whining about Obama making big money from Wall Street.

Are you having a moment?

Just to get a perspective on speeches by other political figures:

Why Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and others get huge speaking fees | Fortune.com

President George W. Bush makes between $100,000 and $175,000 for every speech he gives and that he has given at least 200 speeches since leaving office in 2009. A bit of simple math translates that activity into more than $30 million for the former president in speech fees alone

Bill Clinton supposedly made around $225,000 for a gig last February.

Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York and one-time Republican presidential hopeful, is said to have pulled up to $270,000 for a speech.

Sarah Palin, former Alaska Governor, former Republican vice-presidential candidate, and all-time cable news and tabloid fixture—is said to have made $115,000 for a speech in 2011.

So it is quite a bit more than some others. I highly doubt any of them would turn down a 400k paycheck to speak. I sure as hell wouldn't.

You do realize the current guy in the WH has surrounded himself with GS bankers and Wall Street people. Yet you guys still love him even though he has in NO way 'drained the swamp'.

The difference between Cons and Libs is most Libs will admit when their side are hypocrites. At no time have I, or anyone I know deluded themselves in believing the Dems aren't beholding to and kiss-ups to Wall Street. They're just as guilty as the GOP. But most Cons still believe the GOP, and Trump are going to 'put WS in their place'. Trump will drain the swamp. Instead he's filled it even more. lol

Just like the immigration issue. Most Cons still won't admit to keep their business buddies happy that the business friendly GOP is as much responsible for the open borders as the Dems. And as the 'wall' issue continues we will see just that, but the Republican base won't see that. They'll still blame the Dems.

I kind of wish Cons would have a 'moment' and open their eyes and think for themselves instead of constantly listening to AM radio talking heads.

WTH was this all about? You attempted to make the thread about cons, and I simply reminded you what the thread was about.

No surprise here. Not many people would turn down that kind of money for such little work. I am convinced that the reason ex-Presidents get that kind of money from financial institutions is to send a message to future Presidents: Take care of us while you are in office and we'll take care of you when you get out.
