Nunes regrets briefing Trump before Intelligence panel

The Intelligence community isn't directly the purview of the legislative branch, which is why as an oversight committee is operates independently. By funneling classified information to the executive branch (which the intelligence community is the purview of), the chairman of the intelligence committee broke that wall. That's why it totally discredited itself, and that's why if an independent investigator is finally assigned it will be to the thanks of Nunes.

Huh? The Executive Branch was the source of that information. It's about as much "breaking a wall" as me quoting your post in my reply.

Breaking the wall would be taking information that hadn't been cleared for release to Congress (such as raw reporting, HCS-O, and that sort of thing) and giving it to Congress.

The thread topic is Nunes, not Hillary or Comey.

And yes, Nunes is in way over his head.

Congressional GOPs didn't cover up for Nixon this time 44 years ago.

And we didn't hear trumposters complain about Comey's November surprise .

"we've all been quite content to demean government, drop civics and in general conspire to produce an unaware and compliant citizenry. "

Thank you all for making America great again.

Comey correcting his previous statement had little to do with anything.

Hillary had a long and storied history of criminality without her ludicrous secret email server scheme.

Nunes did make a mistake in apologizing. Give your enemies nothing!

It's not like they can get cooperation anyway. Show some spine.

Had the press been halfway honest... Hillary would never have come close to the nomination... the same goes for Obama.

That said, what Comey did, didn't change the election results. Hillary, despite the Propagandists Inspired by Goebbels (PIGs), doing their best to prop her up, and claim she had massive leads which were pure fiction, lost, and would have lost regardless.

A lazy, arrogant candidate with health issues and a long history of criminal behavior... and her server and emails simply reinforced everything Americans already knew.

Add a corrupt to the core DNC, and well... 8-years of Trump.

Thank you.

The problem is all our "citizen" information is the result of leaks.

There are three investigations going on as far as I can glean:

Trump colluding with Russians
Trump staff colluding with Russians
Obama administration using the product of eavesdropping for political purposes by the use of unmasked incidental targets.

IMO, Nunes was being a good soldier and carrying out a mission on behalf of Speaker Ryan by 1 - going to Trump, and 2 - going public.

I don't understand why more people aren't upset about intelligence services acting as if they are answerable to no one. This is what dictators do - they use their intelligence apparatus to destroy opponents. It this really the new democrat party? God help us if you all are OK with it.

Reports have Nunes as part owner of a winery that has Russians as partners.

This is getting stranger by the minute.

More phony "news"? It sure looks like it!

Alpha Omega Winery‏ @AOwinery

The only time Alpha Omega did business in Russia was in 2013 when a broker handled a one-time transaction for 22 cases of wine.

Thank you for that info. This connection needs to be investigated and the truth found out no matter what it is. That much is owed to Nunes, the committee he chairs, and the American people.

Another good reason why we need to have a Special Prosecutor and a Select Committee.

Looks like Nune is just taking a cue from his master to put the allegations out there and let other people look for the evidence.

Nune said he saw the reports...but when asked to show them he said he'll have to get them from the intel agencies before he knows for sure. Thats a big contradiction right there. How did he see the reports if the intel agencies haven't shown them to him yet?

Funny thing, even Trump seemed "somewhat" dubious about Nune's revelations.

The credibility of the investigation has been compromised now; Nunes needs to be removed from the committee so that it can go on without spies tipping off the culprits.

Nunes has tenure and won't be removed as chairman of the United States House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

What is actually needed is for Congress to agree on a Special Prosecutor with subpoena power and open hearings. I don't see the majority Republicans agreeing to do that at this particular juncture..

Whoever replaces Nunes could be worse. That's where there needs to be an independent investigation.

Let's be clear about this: if Trump were to steal a miniature submarine, cross the Atlantic and in a giant televised spectacle announce that he was defecting to Russia, the Republican Congress would not only not impeach him, they'd let him run the United States from within Russia.

Fair enough. It's my official position that any check that happens will have to come as a result of Democrats getting the House back (and maybe the Senate, but the math is pretty awful there), but I'm allowed to hope now and again that there are just enough principled Republicans left to make a difference.

Those sane Republicans are too drunk with power to care what Donny tweets.
