‘Client copy’ stamp suggests leak came from someone near him

'It wasn’t the smoking gun President Donald Trump’s critics had hoped for. Far from it.

Some even thought MSNBC host Rachel Maddow’s apparent scoop on Trump’s leaked 2005 tax return made him look good. After all, the New York Times had once suggested that he had avoided taxes, and others that he was faking the extent of his wealth.

The White House circulated a response before the segment aired, complete with its go-to “dishonest media” broadside.'

I think it is definitely possible...if not probable.

He wants people off of his back about the tax returns.

So he deliberately leaks one that is totally harmless looking and it does three things:

1) it gets people off of his back - for at least a while - about his taxes

2) it sticks it to the press - especially with his supporters - for 'illegally' releasing his returns.

3) It was - if he is never caught - a smart thing to do...politically. At least in the short term.

I actually believe he did do it - or had someone deliberately do it - until I see factual evidence to the contrary.

That's all the Left has. Fairy tales. DTs opposition should be ashamed.

And cue the Trumpbots defending their messiah.

(a messiah who a few short years ago thought Reps were basically looney tunes).

A bonus...posting this gets Trumpbots all flapping around like wet hens....it's kinda fun.

Not playing sports/skydiving/racing cars fun (all of which I have done)...but kinda, online fun.

There's nothing to defend...lol

I would not at all be surprised to find out he did this himself.

There are many advantages to Trump for doing this at this time.

1- it shows he paid a good amount of taxes in that year
2- it gives him the chance to attack the left media
3- it satisfies many of his supporters because of 1 & 2
4- it takes the attention off of both Russia and health care for the moment
5-because it is woefully incomplete - it protects the main thing he wants to protect - the source of his income and foreign ties

Its really a solid move in a very machiavellian sort of way.

Breaking; Tiny nanobots found in Lois Learner's panties! Could be source of Trump IRS leakages!

No it makes sense. If they had access to page 1&2 of his 2005 1040, surely they had access to all of em including the supporting schedules... so why weren't those released? Also notably absent was his schedule A. Someone didn't want to be criticized for his charitable giving (or lack thereof).

Exactly. Trump didn't release his own tax returns. The microwave stole them. Cause it was made in Mexico and you know how those Mexican ones are, I mean some of them are good but they can be bad hombres or whatever the ****.

Mags, you support a guy that insulted gold star parents, war heroes, his opponents wife, said his opponents dad had something to do with killing JFK and now is falsely accusing the former president of tapping his phones. You don't get to say **** about how the other side should be ashamed. It means less than nothing coming from a Trump supporter.

That would depend on which side of the Trump gulf one is on to begin with.

You don't have to be on a side.
Not only did he embarrass the **** out of Maddow, which has been pushing that Russia crap, he made himself look better at the same time.

If he did do it, it was clever as hell.

It makes perfect sense that Maddow is this stupid?

Actually, the only thing it suggests is someone has one of these.

God damned it, this was going to be MY conspiracy theory. Damned Obama Shadow Government reading my mind and leaking my thoughts to the web!

Hahah

There's no proof either way, but it's certainly not outside the realm of possibilities. The fact is, those returns are rather old and not very damning at all and Trump desperately needed the news cycle changed away from microwaves that turn into cameras and Obama spying on Trump Tower. This fits the bill well.

But in the end, we're not going to know either way and all we can really do is recklessly speculate.

I'd say it's possible the President leaked this of his own accord, but I don't really care either way. A 2005 tax return has nothing to do with the primary reasons people want him to release his tax returns from the last couple of years.

I did think it was a pretty telling move by MSNBC and Maddow though. They heavily promoted this tax return, obviously to garner ratings, and it basically undermined one of the Democrats' attack lines on Trump, that Trump doesn't pay federal taxes. I guess ratings for the show was more important than their politics. Whether that is good, bad or neither really isn't a concern to me, only that they put their income over their politics.

If he had real balls, Trump would release his 2015 return.

Not surprising to see this veering by the left to maintain cover.

Since the "explosive" revelations turned out to be little more than a fart in the wind, there must be some explanation invented to maintain the objective.

I think the Trump Administration reacted to the pending revelation of his stolen returns and made sure the information presented by the Permanent Egg Faced Maddow was accurate and not manipulated.

I do find it interesting the Trump haters have completely ignored the issue of State and Local Taxes, which weren't revealed. Don't know, but given the uber high tax rates, it's possible President Trump paid close to $50 million in taxes in 2005. Crickets on that possibility.

I'm also drawn to think of those liberal elites who work in New York City, but live in Connecticut and other nearby states. They can't escape the City Tax, but they certainly can escape the high New York State taxes. President Trump chooses to live in the City, and in the State, costing him millions. Nothing on that either.

President Trump didn't start that rumor. The Clinton camp did.
