Trump personally met with Russian ambassador during campaign

He's lost all credibility with most Americans except for his most fervent supporters. The right-leaning GOP will continue to support him until he ceases to be a rubber stamp for their draconian legislation. Look at how most GOP politicians are refusing to condemn Trump's jackass Saturday morning tweet storm!

As long as he plays ball, and signs the tea party bills Trump will survive.

The right wing will only support him as long as they fear the political clout of his base. Once going against Trump is no longer a risk to their respective careers, they will be more than happy (perhaps jubilant) to dump him for Pence. Pres. Pence will do a far better job of championing their causes and will be far more electable in 2020.

Why would trump lie about it, repeatedly ?

The problem I have with all these meetings between members of Team Trump and Russian officials is all the denial that's taken place.

As I've said in other threads related to this topic, I could understand and accept it if these meetings were either part of legit business dealings as private citizens during business abroad or as duly elected public figures just doing their job in whatever capacity they served on some House or Senate committee. I could even accept an impromptu meeting which could easily be immediately explained as such. But all the denials, the excuses that eventually pan out to show that several members of Trump's campaign and/or Admnistration did, in fact, have contacts with Russian government officials, that's what strikes me as curious.

I'm not saying go on a witch hunt similar to Whitewater or EmailGate where hearing after hearing is held until something is found leading to something more incriminating, i.e., Monica Lewinski and Benghazi, but I am saying these contacts (with the same guy no less), the server issue and all the denials the turn out to be false and/or misleading begs for further investigation.

Now, I've read where some posters who support Trump have stated that Hillary and/or members of her campaign also meet with the same Russian government official, Sergey Kislyak, but if you read what's been reported thoroughly what's been said was that Kislyak meet with Democratic/political operatives outside of Hillary's campaign staff. Moreover, the meetings w/Democrat/liberal party affiliates were all with members of liberal think tanks that advised Hillary of people working for her.

...the Russian ambassador [Sergey Kislyak] who met with Trump campaign officials also met with "people working in think tanks advising Hillary or advising people working for Hillary.

"Well, if you look at some people connected with Hillary Clinton during her campaign, you would probably see that he had lots of meetings of that kind," Dmitry Peskov told CNN "GPS" host Fareed Zakaria. "There are lots of specialists in politology, people working in think tanks advising Hillary or advising people working for Hillary."

In short, Kislyak may have meet with members from ThinkProgress or MoveOn, for example, but he apparently never meet with members directly connected with Hillary's campaign. I'm not defending her; I'm just inferring what should be obvious: Why was this guy Kislyak meeting directly with so many members of Team Trump when all of his so-called contact with Team Hillary were on the fringes? Your clue comes in those attempts at "bilateral relations" Peskov spoke of.

Peskov said it is the job of Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak to meet with officials on both sides to talk about "bilateral relations."

...

Peskov, did however, concede that Putin preferred Trump over Clinton, saying, "If you ask him whether he had mentioned the then-candidate Donald Trump, I will answer, yes, he had."

Peskov suggested that the Kremlin leader found Clinton hostile toward Russia, while Trump was open to thawing U.S.-Russian relations.

"The candidate Hillary Clinton was quite negative about our country in her attitude and in her program, declaring Russia being nearly the main evil in the world and the main threat for the United States," Peskov said.

"And to the contrary, the other candidate, Donald Trump, was saying that, 'Yes, we disagree with the Russians ... in lots of issues, but we have to talk to them in order to try to find some understanding.' Whom would you like better? The one who says that Russia is evil or the one who says that, 'Yes, we disagree, but let's talk to understand and to try to find some points of agreement?'" he asked.

So, the question then should be asked, what exactly did Kislyak discuss with the likes of Page, Cohen, Sessions, Flynn and possibly even Trump himself? What exactly did Putin hope to gain if Trump was elected? If it was all business, why would the same Russian Ambassador and not their equivalent to our Secretary of State be speaking to members of Trump's team? Or better yet, why wouldn't Russian business leaders be talking with members of Team Trump if all they were doing was "conducting business as private citizens"? And why would a Russian/Ukrainian bank be searching for Trump's campaign servers using software to mask it's IP address?

There may not have been tinkering with our election process by the Russians, but they were up to something involving Team Trump. What was it?

You know that's not what was meant when they say having no connections. He greeted the Russian ambassador along with other foreign ambassadors at a foreign diplomat meet and greet. Good God people, just stop! It's getting ridiculous.

Mr. Trump met at a VIP reception with Russia’s ambassador to the U.S., Sergey Ivanovich Kislyak. Mr. Trump warmly greeted Mr. Kislyak and three other foreign ambassadors who came to the reception.

They intend to die on this hill, I'm afraid.
