Trump picks McMaster to replace Flynn

Um, no. Judd Gregg withdrew because of his "irresolvable conflicts" (his words) with Obama over the stimulus package and because he believed Obama wanted to politicize the 2010 census. Nothing "turned up" on him.

You're probably right. Now that you mention it, wasn't Gregg a Republican and fiscal conservative? I can see how the stimulus package would have been a problem for him. Not sure what his beef was with the census so I can't comment on that.

Yup, it was his vehement opposition to rampant spending that did it. He's a lifelong fiscal conservative - one of my favorite politicians ever. Such a great man. He said when he dropped out that he never should have accepted Obama's offer to begin with. I worked on one of his campaigns and know him quite well. I know I was massively confused myself when I heard he wanted the job. If it's one thing Obama wasn't it was fiscally conservative.

I can't remember what the deal was with the census, it was too long ago. I do remember him (Gregg) worrying about it being politicized. In the end, it probably was. I just don't remember how.

Clinton and HW Bush didn't have theirs until March.

Even the anti-Trump NYt have admitted record setting opposition to his cabinet. It is currently 2/20 with numerous number of appointees to yet be confirmed. And Congress will not be in session till next week almost carrying us into March! Many of these appointees are major.

Obama had all his key appointees confirmed early on. That's a fact. What the Democrats are doing this time around will make history.

Yes, they'll be here. A little soon though. They haven't found their talking points yet.

He was at 73 Easting. The Libbos will be blaming him for the friendly fire incident during that battle, before ya know it.

It's an important process. It should take as long as it takes to properly vet the candidates.

The Dems don't have enough votes to block any Cabinet picks anyway. Even with Collins crossing on DeVos, she got confirmed. I don't see any of them not sailing through going forward.

I wasn't referring to McMaster and Kellogg. I was referring to assigned talking points in general.

The thread topic is on two solid choices by trump to the NSA, who hopefully will be able to withstand the palace intrigue, that are widely respected on both sides of the aisle, not on fake accusations of alt-right talking points .

14 have been confirmed so far. 8 have yet to be confirmed. And of those 8, 4 have been approved by the subcommittees already.

Oh I know, but it's important for the minority party to get their objections on the record. They have constituents they work for as well.

They actually aren't moving as slowly as I thought. They confirmed 14 in a month, and 4 have already passed the subcommittees and will get their hearings probably soon. Acosta was just named this week, and the other 3 waiting - Coats, Perdue, and Lighthizer - will get their days soon I presume. These hearings occur for a reason. But I will say that I think a President should get to select his Cabinet, although I understand the need to get objections on the record.

Except for Puzder of course, who was sunk by his own GOP for Labor.

trump actually got lucky on that one, allowing him to choose an Hispanic for his cabinet .

Trump chooses McMasters as his national security adviser. Gen. Kellogg and Gen. McMaster have known each for years. Gen. Kellogg will be McMaster's Chief of Staff.

Here's a video I gleaned off another site explaining how he describes in dealing with ISIS and learning from past mistakes.

Look at all those ribbons etc on this man's chest!. Whoa! I wonder what they all stand for.

Social media is giving this guy thumbs up.

As bad a pick Flynn was, that's how good a pick McMaster is. I think Trump is finally listening to his advisers.

Regardless, glad to see so many pleased with McMaster. After all National Security should be something not a partisan issue.

Liberals and NeverTrumpers should like him for two reasons:

1) His work centers on a hard-hitting critique of Vietnam.

2) That critique centered on the power cabinet members and politicians had over sober military minds.

His book on Vietnam and Johnson and the cabinet is supposed to be pretty good. It has been on my reading list awhile, but my stack of books to read keeps getting taller, not shorter...

And my comment was in an exchange with another member's opinion wondering how long it would take the left to figure out what talking point to use to trash the nominees.

I know the problem.

I only have 6 books showing up today. Amazon is evil! But pre-order discounts feel soooooo good.
Used sales on Amazon were my big ticket to savings and shortage of storage.

I'm reading too many books right now too. I've been slacking hard on them the last few weeks. But, I did knock out two chapters yesterday, and I'm starting to become engaged in the narrative.

Moved to new house, so needed new bookshelves. Brother in law helped, could not believe I needed them so big. Then found out I filled the shelves in the closet with more books...
