An elite Manhattan prep school has scrapped its annual ice-skating party at Trump Wollman Rink in Central Park after liberal parents complained about the event. Parents at The Dalton School reportedly refused to send their kids in protest against the president, forcing the school to pull the plug on the event.

I think it is completely insane,' one Dalton parent who disagrees with the protest told the New York Post.
'Like him or not, it feels like a strange place for New Yorkers to protest. And sad that kids now have no skating party.'


While another Dalton parent told the newspaper that a clique of anti-Trump 'liberal moms' had pressured the headmaster to call off the event.

Because the cult of identity politics thinks we always need relateables to celebrities to be interested in a story.

Because he's an alum. This grabs attention and is also pretty standard practice. When Choate, Andover, Phillips, Miss Porters, or the Manhattan Sacred Heart School is mentioned, so are famous alums.

It's a private school, and the parents' private business.

My kids went to private (Catholic Prep) schools, and I very much like the fact that the school's curriculum & values reflect mine, and that parents have an active roll in the process - as you can see here. I also like that the school has higher standards in both academics AND student conduct, and can toss-out trouble-maker kids easier than in public schools, thereby fostering a better environment for my kid.

If the public schools want to push Trump's, DeVos', or the government's ideology down your kid's throat, and you're good with that - go for it!

But I'm perfectly happy with Catholic schools, and wouldn't hesitate to do it again. My kids would happily do it again also, and they our grateful for not just the strong academics, but for the values based education they received alongside the academics.

I think this is much ado about nothing, and is no one's business but the Mom's & Dad's.

Great post! :thumbs: That's probably true, so I have a suggestion to make - have Trump hint that he's thinking of funding some movies soon. The cheers from the Hollywood celebrities about how great Trump is would be deafening... :lamo

BTW, how many "celebrities" have left the country since Trump was elected, as they threatened to do? :doh

Actually we all don't know that. Because someone went to a school does not necessarily mean that they are involved in policy.

why the hell would the school do this?

screw the parents. keep it open for the kids that wanted to go.
my God we have become stupid as a society.

let every parent or kid make the choice to go or not.

the headmaster has no spine because I would have told them you can protest all you want.
your kids don't have to go but the event is still going on. you don't have the right to stop other people from going.
