The fact is the woman has been a cop for years on this same police force with the same fellow officers with no problem.

So given the track record in these kinds of cases, doubt is not because she is a Muslim. It is doubt because it just sounds fishy on the face of it, and there have been so many other cases of similar accusations of these kinds of attacks that have proven to be untrue. In fact, I am unaware of any that HAVE been true so far. Have you?

It is legitimate to not automatically damn her alleged attackers here also. If they in fact maliciously attacked her, then that will be decided soon enough. Until then, I will continue to give benefit of the doubt to her fellow officers as well as the possibility maybe this time the woman has a case in which case justice should be done. But I will to admit my own suspicions that this is possibly a manufactured crime for the intent of getting a lot of money based on the track record of so many other similar cases.

They would sure settle if the costs of fighting a lawsuit exceed the settlement which is too often the case or they just don't want to deal with the negative publicity of a prolonged trial. People, organizations, corporations, boards of directors, insurance companies, etc. etc. etc. settle all the time even when they believe they could win in court because the cost of defending themselves in court would exceed the settlement amount.

Or they just want it to go away because it is bad PR. Do you know what the settlement was? Because that is also a huge factor. It is possible it was almost nothing and she thought better of making false allegations so she would not get dragged through the mud.

Once you put a case in front of a jury there is no guarantee so it's SOP to settle for roughly what the cost of litigation would be. It becomes a business decision, not a legal one.
