Donald Trump continues to use his "old, unsecured Android phone" since taking office despite "the protests of some of his aides," according to a report from The New York Times about how the new president is settling in to his routine. This contradicts another report from late last week that indicated Trump had given up the phone in exchange for a "secure, encrypted device approved by the Secret Service."It's not clear exactly what kind of Android phone Trump uses—he has previously indicated that it's a Samsung Galaxy device—or whether it has also been encrypted or otherwise hardened or what kinds of things he uses it for. Samsung's Knox software is approved for "sensitive but unclassified use" by the US Department of Defense, so these phones are cleared for at least some kinds of government work when configured correctly. How big of a deal is this? We don't know anything about the phone's configuration, but the state of Android security is notoriously poor compared to other operating systems like iOS or Windows, both of which are patched regularly by Apple and Microsoft with no interference from hardware manufacturers or wireless carriers.

Don't worry, Putin's FSB really locked that phone down before they gave it to him. ;)

That site used this New York Times article:

The only mention of phones? Referring to White House phone system:

“These are the most beautiful phones I’ve ever used in my life,” Mr. Trump said in a telephone interview Tuesday evening.

“The world’s most secure system,” he added, laughing. “The words just explode in the air.” What he meant was that no one was listening in and recording his words.

You are right: "Lock her up! Lock her up!" So when does he plan on turning himself over to the authorities?

If he's using an unsecure device to receive and send secret information, he should be locked up. Don't you agree?

I assure you that in the IT world, arstechnica is not "fake news".

You obviously did not read the entire NYT article it linked to. In it, it stated:

"Mr. Trump’s wife, Melania, went back to New York on Sunday night with their 10-year-old son, Barron, and so Mr. Trump has the television — and his old, unsecured Android phone, to the protests of some of his aides — to keep him company. "

I would rather see his supporters hospitalized for lacking the gene needed to detect irony and hypocrisy.

I stand corrected. I thought that was referring to his wife and son. My mistake. :3oops:

(That'll teach me to watch TV, play a computer game, try to speed read a news article, and respond to a Forum all at the same time.)

I'm not a Trump supporter and never have been.

If you don't think it's a problem, what is there to worry about?

Does it state what he's using his non secure phone for?

So is this a good thing or a bad thing? For months you liberals told us that this sort of behavior should not keep someone from becoming president. So why should the president doing it be a problem all of the sudden? And yes, I get that you are trying to shine the light on hypocrisy. I bet its hard to see with that light in your eyes.

But you people said it was stupid and almost traitorous, so which is it?

If he is sending classified info, its stupid and traitorous. Don't you agree?

I still have one of my old one's. It's a deactivated paper weight. I view Trump retaining this thing as a positive sign that there's nothing on the phone that would incriminate him. If Hillary could say the same thing, she might be president now.

bingo. he can use it for non-top secret stuff like personal emails to text messages.

But you people said it was stupid and almost traitorous, so which is it?

prove he is doing anything wrong with it first.
we will be waiting for your proof.

So is this a good thing or bad thing. For months you righties have told us that this sort of behavior should keep someone from becoming president. So why should the president now be doing it not a problem all of a sudden? And yes, the hypocrisy is shining on you guys. Where is your outrage that you had for Hillary? When you guys told us that simple conversations were classified, so shouldn't the same be with Trump? Where is YOUR outrage?

Who the **** is arstechnica.com?

Given the prodigious pile of #fakenews, I'd hold out on this one.

Translation:" Anything negative about dear leader Trump is Fake News".

There is no rule, unspoken or legal, that the Trump Cult expects Dear Leader to adhere to... unless he himself chooses to do so of his own volition.
