Le Pen to push for 'Frexit' if EU refuses to cede powers

Re: France: Le Pen Begins to Maneuver for Frexit

Just like all the Brexit politicians, they wanted to leave the EU but keep all the benefits without having to pay for them.

The essence of liberalism. So I guess that means her actions are predictable as hell.

Re: France: Le Pen Begins to Maneuver for Frexit

There actually are some parrallels here to ww2 here, minus the godwin nazi comparison. Germany is the main powerhouse of the eu, and does more to control europe now than hitler did with the nazis and military force. A big issue with alot of eu countries is how little say they have in anything and how much germany has in running the show, each country has their own sovereign interests, and when their interests get overshadows by the biggest players, they tend to want to leave.

Neither France nor Britain can really be considered a "bit player" however....

Being the second and third largest economies in the eu, yes and no. The biggest control from germany comes from the 2008 eu crisis that spun off from the 2007 housing crisis in america. many of their economies were failing due to high social spending combined with massive drops in tax revenue, and austerity measures.

Germany being one of the few who did good and being the largest power, now holds the debts of many of these failing countries, which is often why germany gets it's way with the eu.

The other issue is currency, pre euro germany made high quality products but had an expensive currency, france had a much weaker currency but made cheaper products. The switching to the euro benefits germany greatly while hurting other countries. germany and france now have the same currency, and same exchange rate but germany makes higher quality products off the same currency and similiar wages.

This entire setup pretty much funnels manufacturing to germany, and eliminates offsets countries like france had, where they may make a lower quality product, but also cheaper, now the low quality products cost the same through a unified currency, benefitting germany.

The difference between the European Union and the United States is that the EU is the Federal Government on steroids, where states are stinky jock-straps covered in Ben-Gay.. ;)

The EU was a mistake then, and it is now.
