OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma plans to force hospitals, nursing homes, restaurants and public schools to post signs inside public restrooms directing pregnant women where to receive services as part of an effort to reduce abortions in the state.

The State Board of Health on Tuesday approved regulations for the signs. Businesses and other organizations will have to pay an estimated $2.3 million to put up the signs because the Legislature didn't approve any money for them.

Wait!! Nursing homes? Yes, because the people of Oklahoma don't want 90 year old grandmothers getting abortions either, after they get knocked up.

Stupid is as stupid does. Oklahoma now takes over first place from Kansas as the most moronic state in the Union.

"Under the law, the signs would state: "There are many public and private agencies willing and able to help you carry your child to term and assist you and your child after your child is born, whether you choose to keep your child or to place him or her for adoption. The State of Oklahoma strongly urges you to contact them if you are pregnant." The signs would also include a link to the Health Department's website."

 Why that's just downright EVIL!!!!! How dare they link people to the Health Dept.....tsk, tsk.....

They would get better results by placing free condoms in every man's restroom except for nursing homes.

Hmm, I don't think this will be much to worry about.

Too many words for the common attention span to digest, especially in a restroom.

Readers would lose interest after the tenth word. (I know I did.) :coffeepap:

Hey, as long as they aren't blocking access to abortion clinics, then what-the-****-ever.

There are far worse examples indeed, such as a number of state laws requiring proven misinformation be given to women seeking abortion (ie, that it "increases the risk of suicide - no).

You mean like hearing the heartbeat.....oh how evil.....

Without naming them, consider those posters on this site you consider to be imbeciles. Then consider the proportion of the population you personally deem to be imbeciles, or at the very list, fools. Consider the probability that if they see a government-mandated sign in a location run by some sort of expert (here, doctors and nurses in an abortion clinic), they will attach weight to whatever is implied by that sign.

Now ask: if we put aside religious belief in the soul and empirically untestable philosophical arguments, why should we have a law singling out abortion as a circumstance in which a health care provider is required to provide information that does not bear on personal or public health?

there is that naughty word, some people have no problem if it suits their agenda

Hey, if big brother can let dudes go into my granddaughters rest room at school, they can do about anything they want. Such is the metasticising of big government.

i make the point many times, that government should never force anyone or business to do anything, unless their actions is a violation of someone rights or threaten the health and safety of the public.

people are for force being used if it fits into their agenda, but reject force if it does not

But if you were pregnant and feeling a little desperate about it, it might hold your interest more.

Obviously the signs aren't for 90 year old grandmothers, but for the young women who take care of them in the nursing home. I'm confused as to why you find that stupid.

Do healthcare providers know their options when it comes to healthcare?

Condoms are for sailors and hippies.
And not for those that do not care if they catch an illness that will kill them or care if they have to pay child support for the next 18 years plus.

Or Stupid, hey pick one.

Was making a movie reference, Austin Powers to be exact.

Everyone of any career should know their options when it comes to health care. It's part of being an adult.

What has that got to do with what she said?

It sounds as if it's costing businesses and other entities money to post the signs.
