Trump takes credit for SoftBank's $50 billion investment - POLITICO

By BRENT GRIFFITHS 12/06/16 03:06 PM EST
President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday claimed that a Japanese company's plan to invest $50 billion in the United States was a direct result of Trump's victory over Hillary Clinton.

“Ladies and gentlemen, this is Masa from Japan,” Trump told reporters at Trump Tower as he introduced SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son. “He's just agreed to invest $50 billion in the United States and 50,000 jobs. He's one of the great men of industry, so I just want to thank you very much. Thank you.”

Trump also touted the investment on Twitter, adding "Masa said he would never do this if Trimp had not won the election

tons of companies are expecting him to deliver on this promise of lower corporate taxes.
they are simply ramping up the forefront.

however if this is the case 50k jobs is nothing to sneeze at.
that could expand further out as well.

I know it's a matter of translation and all but...

Son said:::‘This is great, the U.S. will become great again.”

What happened between 1/20/2009 and Trump's announcement that could have happened at the White House that prevented America from being great before I wonder? :lamo  :peace

As always, the devil is in the details. Few of which are available.

Softbank is a large Japanese telecom that has struggled in the US. They currently own Sprint, and tried to buy T-Mobile, and were shot down for anti-trust reasons. They're hoping the new administration will be more lenient.

They are not going to move a huge factory to the US. What they are doing is planning to fund startups.

They already have something going with the Saudis, where they have promised $25 billion, the Saudis another $45 billion, and they are looking for more investors to total $100 billion. It's not clear whether that fund is what the CEO was talking about -- or if anything about their plans have actually changed.

So basically, a Japanese CEO is investing in the US (good) while promising lots of jobs (which may or may not materialize) and making the President happy (so his company can buy another company).

Sounds like business as usual to me.

Liberal companies and nations in a panic. China stopping libera Hollywood with their conservative movies. Trump bringing the jobs wil prove liberals as the enemy. Liberal leaders will be jailed. All liberal companies will die

You are right. But we need more improvements than just lower taxes, though, that would help.

I don't know enough details about these various "deals" to determine if they are net goods or not but Trump is doing a good job with the optics of it.

How large is the economy?

Not so large that $50 billion dollars has become pocket change

50,000 jobs added means that 200,000 or more Americans are going to live better lives

In fact probably far more than that will benefit indirectly

This could be a great deal. I am sure it will piss of some hyper partisan liberals and that is also great. Maybe this is what it looks like when we have a president that has a use for his phone other than trying to bypass Congress. The more the Democrats say he can't do something the more he proves them wrong. Hell, he hasn't even been sworn in yet and he is kicking ass. He's doing a good job of making Obama look lame.

If romney or bush or hillary or the smug little rodent kasich had been elected none of this would have happened

In fact trump is hustling so much that if he keeps it up he may accomplish more in transition than those three could have done in their hallowed first one hundred days

Blacks will now find out that liberal leaders are their real enemy. Liberal leaders then will be jailed

lol... Yes, in the same way that a constant drop in the unemployment rate drove conservatives into whirlwinds of denial.

No one ever said Trump was incapable of making a good headline.

At the same time, congratulating him for funds that haven't been invested, and jobs that haven't actually been created, and was probably going to happen anyway, is not exactly something to celebrate -- especially if the promises don't end up materializing or benefitting voters in the next 2-3 years.

At any rate, let's see what SoftBank actually does first, shall we?

Yep, just as predicted. Thanks.

we simply pointed out the real reason for the drops and liberals went crazy.
most of the drops weren't the jobs created but the number of people leaving the work
force.

I see no reason that they would back out on a deal.

That damn Trump! Bringing in jobs, saving jobs from relocating! Who the hell does he think he is? He isn't even president yet and already things are happening!

Blacks will get jobs and show them that liberals Are the enemy. Then liberal leaders will be jailed

How about they get jobs and go on to live the American middle class dream, and leave jail to the movies.

What drove people crazy was that we needed to point out, over and over again, how the various measures worked. Which were repeatedly ignored.

I would explain how deeply wrong that is, but I've done that so many times, that I'm tired of it.

However, the good news is that you are now committed to classifying LFPR as the "true" unemployment rate, and will get to tie yourselves into knots as demographic pressures, and people getting more education, continue to push down LFPR during Trump's term.

What "deal?" There is no deal.

More details are coming out, and as reported earlier, it's basically a venture fund that already exists and already had plans to invest in the US, possibly combined with their existing plans to keep throwing money at Sprint. They basically drummed up "50,000 jobs" out of nowhere.

I.e. they're stroking Trump's ego, which is a smart thing for them to do -- and a little bit stupid for anyone who falls for it uncritically.

Trump was giving a speech in North Carolina tonight as part of his victory tour.

It was carried by all the news channels

Hes throgh talking now and is mingling with the public.

The Rolling Stones are playing in the background

Thats significent

We know how the measures work and we know what thy are used for.
It isn't wrong because hat is what the reports said if you actually read them.

Even just recently the jobs report said the decline or major part of the decline was people
Leaving the work force.

Sorry you don't get to define my argument. I am not committed and you don't get to assign anything.
The r five and r six numbers give a much better employment out look.

I think I will believe the report over random internet poster.
