Donald Trump risks China rift with Taiwan call

It's just crazy. It's the first time I've actually felt anger over America's descion. I tried to keep an open mind etc plus it's not my country etc. But it's very clear now Americas poor choice will have an impact worldwide and this man could potentially change the political landscape worldwide. He's so unpredictable, so brash and if he can do this before even sworn in God knows what he will do with the arm of the military behind him.

This is a good post. A lot of us here are getting caught up on what kind of damage this administration can cause the US without even thinking about International ramifications.

There's a new sheriff in town. The President who erased his own red line need not be consulted.

Well if you're going to puss off China it's probably an idea to inform the commander in Chief given the US's heavy presence in the region.

Trump notified everyone in the world.. Have you never watched one of his rallies?

He said in his rallies that he was going to undermine Chinese authority in the region by informally recognizing a country that China considers part of the PRC?

Let's see... China has unilaterally attempted to grab most of the South China Sea, and we're the one's making trouble with a phone call. Have I got that right?

Let the handwringing on the Left begin.

From Bloomberg:

"China, Grappling With Trump, Turns to ‘Old Friend’ Kissinger"

The 93-year-old former secretary of state, who secretly brokered President Richard Nixon’s watershed visit in 1972, returned to Beijing to meet with state leaders Friday, just two weeks after huddling with Trump in New York. While little about Kissinger’s closed-door talks has been disclosed, Chinese officials are trying to assess whether the incoming administration will prompt greater confrontation over trade and territory disputes, as Trump promised on the campaign trail. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...ling-with-trump-turns-to-old-friend-kissinger

No, he said he and putin will be nuking china and splitting up what's left..

Don't worry, China can't build much of anything that will last for more than a use or two at best these days.

Their equiptment is junk and military command is a joke of communist bureaucracy..
You think out army navy marines airforce situation is bad? Go have a gander at what that is like in china..

That's what we thought about Japan proper to the Second World War. And yet.....we got a rather nasty suprise. It's best not to underestimate the opposition.

Depends on the message you want to send. Besides, the current administration would certainly have been opposed, and that would have been the story. Now the Chinese are stuck trying to figure out Trump.

Talking about reforming trade deals with China is very different from what he's done.

Let the handwringing on the Left begin.

Over a phone call. It's not like we just flew a couple of B1b's at tree top level over the Chinese fake islands and broke some windows.

It's China though, probably just as unpredictable as Trump. As a guy living in England I have to say I don't like the odds either way.

Duterte congratulated the U.S. president-elect, the Trump team's statement said, and the two men "noted the long history of friendship and cooperation between the two nations, and agreed that the two governments would continue to work together closely on matters of shared interest and concern."

In five months in office, Duterte has upended Philippine foreign policy by berating the United States, making overtures toward historic rival China and pursuing a new alliance with Russia.

His diplomacy has created jitters among Asian countries wary about Beijing's rising influence and Washington's staying power as a regional counterbalance.

Duterte has praised China and told Obama to "go to hell" and called him a "son of a bitch" whom he would humiliate if he visited the Philippines.

....

Duterte seems to be a pretty cool cat..

Really? Massive trade deficit taking all of our jobs and you call that good relations? Yeah we have good relations with them because we are currently letting them rape us..

Or if we choose we can print all the money we want and build huge infrastructure, then print a ton more money and buy everything we can while the $$ is still worth something until it is not, and once we've printed the $ to the value of toiletpaper we can pay china off with it..

So pretty much we could force china to accept a few cargo containers full of toiletpaper and they would be screwed..

Pining after lost jobs making plastic figurines, huh?

This guys is awesome.. China sucks..

I don't think China is unpredictable at all. We shall see.

I think they are unpredictable in the sense we never truly know what they are thinking. They play their cards close to the chest.

It looks for all the world to me that Trump is doing his due diligence in the region, and starting with personal phone calls. No doubt the Chinese are watching with interest and concern. They should be concerned. They have much to answer for, and they know it.

Actually, they can't, not without hurting themselves more than us.

True. China holds a little over 5% of the nation's debt, and they are a major exporter to the USA. Using our dollars to manufacture goods to send to the USA to bought with US dollars. I don't think they will be willing to upset the apple cart.
