Obama says marijuana should be treated like ‘cigarettes or alcohol’[W:137]

Re: Obama says marijuana should be treated like ‘cigarettes or alcohol’

Stores that sell MJ where it is legal do not sell to minors. This is a non issue.

When the **** is sitting on the counter at home, there is no control. I think you are purposely being obtuse.

Everybody has their pet "thing" where parents exercising proper responsibility and supervision is a no-brainer. But where the "thing" is not their pet interest suddenly the concept of parental supervision goes right out the window. I don't think the hypocrisy is deliberate, but it is hypocrisy, an it's across the board.

Re: Obama says marijuana should be treated like ‘cigarettes or alcohol’

You missed the whole ****ing point I was making, and the article in what I quoted. Little kids can't tell if something has THC in it! It looks like candy, because it is candy.

OMG! A HUGE UPSURGE OF 15 CASES!

The sky is falling! The sky is falling! We MUST curtail freedom for adults because the kids might ingest THC!!!!

You nanny-state big gov't types are so predictable.

Re: Obama says marijuana should be treated like ‘cigarettes or alcohol’

Link to any actual actions that Obama took in this "fight"? Otherwise it did not happen.

Huh? This is a known thing.

For the fourth consecutive time, the Drug Enforcement Administration has denied a petition to lessen federal restrictions on the use of marijuana.

While recreational marijuana use is legal in four states and D.C., and medical applications of the drug have been approved in many more, under federal law, it remains a Schedule 1 controlled substance,

Marijuana as a legal product is new. Special precautions will have to be taken at least initially to guard against accident at home with young children as I said. Pot brownies from the store; how is a little kid to know?

You don't seem to mind the marking and packaging of other products for safety.

Same goes for prescription drugs, that can actually harm or kill a child, don't you think?

So, what is the toxic dose of marijuana for a child?

Marijuana has been around forever. It isn't new. Parents either use proper supervision or they don't.

What's the purpose of this question?

Are you trying to make the case that no precautions are take with Rx? Please, knock yourself out.

Re: Obama says marijuana should be treated like ‘cigarettes or alcohol’

Alcohol is a socially disruptive substance that is a major factor in 45% of violent crimes and marijuana is just as "harmless". I don't understand the argument that because we already have one substance that is causing us lots of problems that we should then allow another substance that will cause problems aswell.

If you want to make the freedom argument that's certainly a whole different issue. But if you are arguing that marijuana should be legal because alcohol is, that is pragmatically moronic.

Alcohol is dramatically more harmful than marijuana; i'm shocked by how wrong your equivocation is.

Re: Obama says marijuana should be treated like ‘cigarettes or alcohol’

Provide me with a list of violent, pot-fueled crimes. Let me help you with your answer - they don't happen. Now lets talk about alcohol. There's a huge difference and for you to say one is just as bad as the other shows your ignorance on the subject.

It is an interesting statistic he quoted. I'd love to see the source.

Re: Obama says marijuana should be treated like ‘cigarettes or alcohol’

The people who are deterred from the legal status of a substance are generally not the ones who are most likely to develop serious substance abuse problems.

Drug abuse is here to stay. Now, we, as Americans, have a choice. We can continue to fund both sides of the drug war, and do as Michael Douglass' character in Traffic says and "wage war on my own family," or we can welcome those with substance abuse problems into the fold of society. We can defund the black market with the power of the legal market. We can collect tax revenues and pass regulatory laws to manage issues like using in public or while driving. We can give them the mental and emotional support they need to break the chains of their addictions, or we can continue to incarcerate them at great cost, making their lives worse in the process.

Re: Obama says marijuana should be treated like ‘cigarettes or alcohol’

What's the purpose of this question?

What happens to a child that accidently ingests a marijuana edible? Do they overdose and die? Are they critically injured?

We know what the toxic dose is for many prescribed drugs.

Are you trying to make the case that no precautions are taken with legal marijuana bought from stores? Its been pointed out to you about the packaging used for legal marijuana, and we have childproof packaging for Rx drugs. But, if the drugs are left out of their packaging what happens? If the drug is a powerful pain killer or opiate, the child could very easily overdose and die. What if the marijuana edible is left out and a child eats it, do they overdose and die?

Be honest

I'm not talking about dosage, I'm talking about labeling. Apparently a law was just passed.

yes, soon after legalization it was recognized that packaging was required so that the children would not confuse edibles with candies eligible for kiddie consumption

If the Left wonders why it has suffered major political losses, this why. Liberals have their priorities all screwed up.

where on this list of priorities does this belong?

for extra credit, why can't government do multiple things simultaneously?

for more extra credit, why does government have to follow an order of priorities to accomplish things?

At the bottom, if it even belongs on the list.

Ya see? This is the difference between a president that is a producer and one that's never had a real job in his life. Obama being the latter, obviously. The more time that goes by since 8 November, the more like a child Obama appears.
