Trump doesn’t want to give up his Fifth Avenue penthouse

God I hope so. We'll see - never believe anything you hear, and only half of what you see because at least half won't last.

Extensive losing has a tendency to lead to implementation of standards and merit...ideas that have been in decline for my entire life, and I aint exactly young.

I figured it would be hard for him (and Melania too) to move somewhere that's not as extravagant as their own homes. Hopefully they won't remodel the inside of the White House with the same design as Trump Tower.

Makes you ask the obvious.
Did he really want to be Prez for anything but Ego reason. Was there any other job left for that ego?

Read the story. No doubt that the Media is taking an off-the cuff or even a joke comment and trying to make a big deal about it. You'll notice the distinct lack of a source as usual. Heck I'm surprised CBS isn't spinning this into something else, but I'll give it time. Of all the crap out there that COULD be getting reported on.

Now I understand why Trump said he won't take any vacation. He's only planning on staying in DC as little as he has to.

Smart man. Makes me think he is smarter than he lets on. Personally if I was elected president I wouldn't set foot in the White House, let it be a museum.

TRUMP needs to suck it up and slum it in the White House most nights.

I am HAWkEYE10, and that's my call.

:2wave:

Why? I wouldn't. I would stay as far out of DC as I could.

Yayyyyy!!!! Trump is doing this so it makes me super excited and happy even though I'm completely unable to articulate why that is! [/trumpsupporter]

I read your statement like this:

AARGH!!!! Trump is doing this so it makes me super nervous and angry even though I'm completely unable to articulate why that is!

Oh yeah... TRUMP IS A RACIST![/trumphater]

Makes you ask the obvious.

1. Was Hilary's reason any different
2. Maybe Trump has some phobia about sleeping elsewhere... get over it. Who cares.

I'm not sure I see the big problem here and I hate having to be a voice of defense for Trump considering I've never supported him for the position, but:

1. How much time do members of Congress spend in Washington on weekends? It's my understanding that they sit for a couple of days during the week and then late Thursday or early Friday, they're off home to their constituencies. Why does the President have to be anchored in Washington 24/7.

2. Seems to me all the Obamaphiles were adamant that a President doesn't need to be physically in Washington to have his finger on the pulse of the nation. Is that only true if the President is on a golf course or in Hawaii?

3. This is clearly a new kind of person in the Presidency - maybe a change of process and custom won't be a bad thing. Now, if he's going to want dozens of Washington minions in NYC with him every weekend, then that's an issue of expense and logistics, but if it's just him spending time in his home on weekends, with the wife and his younger children, what's the harm?

Bottom line, not every pronouncement or idea that emanates from the new Presidents mouth has to be immediately looked upon as a catastrophic mistake. After all, he was primarily elected on a platform of change, wasn't he??

Why? I wouldn't. I would stay as far out of DC as I could.

Because, there is work to be done, some of that needs to happen in person, and Washington is where all the people are.

Plus it is easier to get the rest of the work done inside of one building rather than two cities 225 miles or what ever it is apart.

Remember all the Hillary supporters that could not think of one accomplishment of hers? I do. To say Clinton supporters are any smarter is part of a dead narrative.

What a deplorable thing to say.

What Risky Thinks Answer No. 58:

The real reason Trump wants to be in his 5 Ave. digs as much as possible is that he intends to remain hands on with his empire. That's a fact, Jack.

I read it, now YOU read it..
Including the NY Times article that's its summarizing.

Partisan? Did you notice the names of the Presidents I listed, and if you did, are your aware of their particular party affiliation?
If he's President, he can live wherever he wants. However, I'm sure that he will find out that the Situation Room and other classified parts of the White House - Eisenhower Executive Office Building Complex will require him to be close at hand rather than in Manhattan.
On a side note, if this is actually a real issue for you, I would suggest you reevaluate what you think is and isn't an important issue. IMHO. You can of course do what you wish, including worrying about what bed the next President sleeps in.
Let's be clear.
You MISSED the whole point that Trump wants to be their as little as possible/Phone-it in.

The fact that you mentioned a few GOP Presidents who had legitimate Vacation properties, does NOT excuse your Conflating/Bumbling it in with Trump.. Who'd like to leave Every Friday afternoon, and come back Monday Morning.
This is NOT the spirit one takes that job with. Before even sworn in , no less.
Now take your total partisan Misread and live with it.

I have been dreading that possibility.

As a libertarian, I'm all about a President who doesn't want to spend much time presidentin'. As far as I was concerned, Obama should have spent MORE time on the golf course and less time with the pen and the phone.

It's supposed to be a administrative position that the people rarely even notice anyway.

All of you who are so afraid of him becoming a fascist dictator should be happy, too.

With all the other things going on that will grab attention, this seems way down on the list of things to worry about. IMO, Trump is making a mistake with this request.

A low worry item, but you still have an opinion.

President is NOT congressman.

AGAIN, Trump wants to Commute to work, not just take two vacations a year.
Everyone PLEASE take note of this simple distinguisher and stop comparing it to other Presidents.

Right!
He could do the whole thing on Twitter, like half his campaign..

But rarely/never Lack of enthusiasm for the job. Not even sworn in and he's wants all weekends at home: most probably at least Friday afternoon til mid Monday.

I don't understand what this thread is about. Former Presidents have had homes the frequented.

Is this what the freaked out, demoralized and discredited press are going to clutch at in the coming weeks and months?

Greetings, CJ. :2wave:

It looks like Priebus is on board with him,and he sure knows how the game is played, so I'm not overly concerned about what might happen because Trump doesn't know DC. Every POTUS has a learning period, and he'd better be allowed to have one, too, without too much badmouthing from those who would love to see him look foolish! Time will tell.....

Trump wants to spend as little as time as possible at the job, and is asking how Few days he can get away with: before he's ever sworn in.. no less.

No doubt YET someone else will BUMBLE into the string with this identical goofy Misread/inapt comparison.
WTF!
(Looks like it's the former Politico member GOP team show, replete with cheerleader)

Trump wants to spend as little time as possible at the job? Where do you get that?

What a colossally lame and pathetic assumption. Talk about projection.

So this is what the defeated and dejected are going to invent as they stumble about in a daze.

WTF indeed.

Can't believe I actually stepped in this mess. Shame on me.
