The federal judge who presided over appeals from various accused drug lords — including Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman — was killed with a bullet to the head outside his Mexico home Monday, authorities said.

Judge Vicente Bermudez Zacarias, 37, was shot at close range as he exited his home in Metepec, which is located about 43 miles outside of Mexico City, officials confirmed. Bermudez had handled several legal challenges from lawyers for “El Chapo,” the jailed leader of the Sinaloa Cartel.

El Chapo is currently attempting to fight extradition to the US. This could be the reason why Judge Zacharias was killed, as it sends a message that he's capable of even having judges assassinated.

There are currently thousands of Cartel soldiers roaming freely around the United States. If El Chapo is extradited here, do you think that he will attempt to have US judges killed as well?

I honestly believe that el Chapo has, in the past, been allied with USA Intelligence Agencies, much like Manuel Noriega, and would prefer a Mexican jail to the Noriega style confinement and silencing. Intelligence Agencies get testimony classified as Top Secret to control trials and prevent embarrassing details from becoming public knowledge. When the Mena, Arkansas cocaine operation expanded into Mexico, South of Tucson, who was the Mexican connection? The cocaine operation is acknowledged in Congressional testimony and the Iran Contra investigations, 20 years after the facts.

Interesting, I never thought of it that way.

It's absolutely possible. Informants have said that bribery payments weren't only going to officials south of the border, but north as well. When you consider that Chapo was making $7 million a day, he definitely had (has) the money to catch the eye of many political big shots.
I wonder what pissed off intelligence high ups enough to end his reign?

Lol. Another daytime soap-opera segment of As The Conspiracy Turns.

My thought are that there is a1001 reasons this judge could have been killed.

Why focus On El Chapo?

Your OP says "who presided over appeals". That is past tense.

Why kill a judge that has already done their work and not one currently working on the case?

I believe we need to end our exorbitantly expensive and useless, War on Drugs.

I believe we need to end our exorbitantly expensive and useless, War on Drugs.

One of the most overused and inaccurate words in the English language over the past several decades is WAR ON __________ (just about anything). Hardly ever does the effort being discussed approach anything like an actual war in which society undertakes a goal which determines its very survival and does so all out, balls to the walls, pedal to the metal, and sees society nearly completely mobilized to win that war.

World War II would be the last time we actually did that.

By that measure, we have never had a war on drugs. If you want to see a real war on drugs, read about the Chinese war on opium under Mao which began after he assumed power into the early Fifties. Now that was a war. And it was won.

How China got rid of opium

You are welcome to quibble the term, with the fantastical, right wing. They coined it.

By this time, there were literally millions of addicts in the country. The new government immediately set about coping with the monumental problem. Peasants were persuaded to plough in their opium crops and sow wheat or rice instead. Neighbourhoods were mobilised in a massive educational programme. The street committees which governed the neighbourhoods held study groups in which the evils of opium and heroin were discussed. Families of known addicts were educated not to blame their addict members, but to encourage them to seek help. Addicts themselves were impressed by the fact that they were not blamed for their addiction, since they were considered victims of foreign governments and other enemies of the people. After their cure, they were given training and then placed in paying jobs. Many of them were hired by the government to work with other addicts.

When ever shall the fantastical right wing, learn their lesson in free trade?

No matter who coined it - it is not accurate and we should stop using it.

What does free trade have to do with a war on drugs being an inaccurate term?

Not my problem if you think it is an inaccurate term. Prohibition is not free trade. Only the right never learns their lesson.

If it is not an accurate term, why then do you use it?

And again, I do not see what any effort to fight drugs has to do with the issue of free trade or more importantly, why you or anyone else would even introduce it into the discussion.

I'm surprised that the judge lived THAT long. Moves are being made.

He'll still get extradited. Mexico's real problems will start when he's safely in the US penalty box.

It is useful for political jargon; maybe we can make fun of the right in the future, for their special pleading, like we do for their understanding of government regarding socialism.

Only the right never gets it.

Prohibition is not free trade.

Narcos, Season 3 on Netflix.

By all means, let's bring all that here to the US!

Meanwhile, MS-13 is terrorizing the northeast.

You say prohibition is not free trade. So what?

i guess the concept of natural rights means nothing to the fantastical right wing, since it is not specifically about guns.

When ever is the right going to learn their free trade lesson?

I am at my ropes end with you as I have no idea what your agenda is or what your point is in making these statements about free trade in a discussion in which the war on drugs was invoked.

we would not have this problem; when ever is the fantastical right wing going to learn their free trade lesson?

Perhaps you can do more than one line quips explain what the issue of free trade has to do with the issue of government efforts to combat drugs?
