Trump used $258,000 from his charity to settle legal problems

Donald Trump spent more than a quarter-million dollars from his charitable foundation to settle lawsuits that involved the billionaire’s for-profit businesses, according to interviews and a review of legal documents.

Those cases, which together used $258,000 from Trump’s charity, were among four newly documented expenditures in which Trump may have violated laws against “self-dealing” — which prohibit nonprofit leaders from using charity money to benefit themselves or their businesses.

In one case, from 2007, Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club faced $120,000 in unpaid fines from the town of Palm Beach, Fla., resulting from a dispute over the size of a flagpole.

In a settlement, Palm Beach agreed to waive those fines — if Trump’s club made a $100,000 donation to a specific charity for veterans. Instead, Trump sent a check from the Donald J. Trump Foundation, a charity funded almost entirely by other people’s money, according to tax records.

A big-time “BIG DEAL and SO WHAT”…….

It matters not how much Trump is shown to be a “lying self-self-serving crook” he will lose the respect and/or support from his mob of supporters as he did when he murdered that guy on 5th Ave………

Like none……..but may impress and attract more support from the “non-profit fraud” industry…….

This is insanity………

Of course, even the alt-right God King decreed he could shoot someone and his minions would still vote for him. Most Trump supporters don't care if he lies, cheats, or is an all around bad character, he has an "R" in front of his name and enables White Supremacists and Xenophobes alike. He is the alt-right hero.

Don't the folks on the right have issues with "slush funds"..........or am I dreaming or something like that......

Enquiring minds want to know

To be fair, I'd probably vote Charles Manson over Hillary Clinton so there is that...

I can look past Helter Skelter but I don't think I'll ever forgive Hillary for her support of arming terrorists in Libya and Syria.

And I will never forgive Republicans for going to war in Iraq and destabilizing the whole region.

I could sympathize with this more if the vote wasn't so bi-partisan. Also Hillary Voted For It so I take it you're a #neverhillary person?

Bush made the decision period. All congress did was allow him to do something, congress didn't tell the president to overthrow Saddam and let his entire army get disbanded so they would move to other parts and join Al-Qaeda and eventually ISIS and enact a government where the Sunnis were basically treated as second hand citizens. That was all the Bush admin choices there.

Those choices are what has completely destabilized the ME.

"REPUBLICANS ALLOWED IRAQ" ignores and justified Hillary's vote to go into Iraq. I see you have no moral core. Either blame everyone responsible for the IRAQ debacle or stop making excuses. I'm done with you.

Answer me this, who made the actual decision to overthrow Iraq, disband the Army, and then alienate Sunnis as second hand citizens. I'll give you a hint, it wasn't congress that made those decisions. The decision by congress was to act, not "how" to act. That is all on Bush and co no matter how much it burns your bum. You can be done with me all you want, the truth is bush an co. made all those decisions.

Hillary is held to a much higher standard than Trump....seems the "r" party only has high standards when it comes to the opposition.

Right. You see if anyone did such a thing that we expected even the slightest modicum of decency out of, then there would be a lot of outrage and condemnation over this. However, as everyone sees Trump as just a total douchebag, as sleazy as it is for a billionaire to use his charity to pay his legal bills, everyone just sees it is something you would expect from such a douchebag.

A thoroughly disgusting story about a disgusting action by Trump.

And it gives whole new clarification to why the man will not release his income tax returns which are likely a verifiable mine field of more news just like this.

Hillary is held to a much higher standard than Trump....seems the "r" party only has high standards when it comes to the opposition.

There is no need to mention anyone else in a story about Trump pulling this kind of crap.

Not at all. It's just that when you are talking about awarding the highest position in the Federal government to someone it is very important to see how that person behaved while in a high position in the government. We hold a person's performance while running the State Department to very high standard.

The left excuses government corruption as business as usual, or applauds it because in the end what they really dream of is an all powerful leftist autocracy.

It is the fact that he needed to defraud his charity that is the best evidence that he is a fraud. He isn't worth billions. He probably is barely worth millions. Why else would he have to use a quarter million from his foundation?

I am no Trump fan...but you are allowed to take a certain amount of money from a charity for your own personal use.

I used to be Head of the board on a philanthropic organization and what Trump is doing is not unheard of.

So it's not okay to lie if you have held a government position but it is okay if your only credential is business experience? How is one liar better than the other?

It may be allowed, but that doesn't mean it isn't dishonest especially when you are using it to settle legal issues. Also, isn't Trump (by his own admission) so wealthy so why would he need to take money from his foundation instead of just using personal money accounts?

Never said that. I said that when you want to evaluate someone for how they will behave in high office the most important source on information is how they behaved in high office previously. We already know that Hillary brings the breadth and depth of her corruption with her to public office and that her "charity" spent the vast majority of it's money enriching friends and family of the Clintons.

It does not matter what he does with it. Feed a puppy, get a lap dance or buy a Corvette...it's his money; he can do with it what he wishes.

If you don't like the law - that is one thing.

But once the guy has legally taken the money - what he does with it is no one's business but his.

Obama thought it was stable in 2011. Stable enough to pull out all US forces and not look back.

Actually, its a thoroughly disgusting story, about a disgusting action, by a thoroughly disgusting person.

I don't dispute that she has lied and as you clearly state she "is" held to a much higher standard ...however..one liar is no better than the other yet a free pass is given every time he opens his mouth. That was my point.
