It is almost always stupid. Sure you shouldn't do business with people who have or have tried to damage your business. But basically if someone has the ability to pay and wants what you are selling, It is pretty stupid not to do business with them. It is bad for business by any definition.

You're assuming that ignoring profit motive is stupid when in reality there is nothing about the profit motive that makes it the only thing that is important to someone.

Refusing to do business with people who can pay for the product or service hurts the reputation of the business. It is bad business. I'm not talking about not being able to deny business to a potential customer. I'm talking about common sense and good business. There should be no room for politics in business. None whatsoever.
 
Politics is involved in absolutely every decision everyone makes. Whether they want to admit it or not.
