US Declassifies Documents Revealing Israels' Nuclear Program.

It's so inappropriate, immature and downright stupid to pull a stunt like this because a foreign leader said some not so nice things about you or is very vocal in disagreements. A stunt like this could strongly harm stability in the region and likely doesn't do much help when it comes to Iran's nuclear talks the president is engaging in. It's not really a secret that Israel has a nuclear program (and also a nation that did not sign the NPT) but to take an allies secrets and make them known over a political debacle is unacceptable. I cannot wait until 2016, I mean that. I don't care if we get another Democrat as long as Obama is gone and we get someone with a shred of maturity and humility in their character. You don't do something like this to an ally.

Yeah, I've got to agree. This was an act of stupid so monumental it deserves its own Mt. Rushmore. :(

We'll have their faces carved into the ass of an ass, like Kerry maybe.

Except that for all the hysteria, Obama per se, didn't release the documents, the courts did due to a FOIA request.
Did The US Department Of Defense Betray Israel With Report On Nuclear Secrets? by Mirabelle Ward | Israellycool

I have never been as angry at my own government as I was yesterday when I saw the jaw-dropping headlines that the US government had released a 1987 report describing Israel’s nuclear program in detail. Before I put pen to paper to rail against the US President (well OK, it was after I vented in an angry draft that will now never see the light of day) I did some fact-checking.

Here’s what I found in the space of about an hour and a half, with no background in journalism, and no access to information other that what is readily available, for free, on the internet.

The timing of the release of the document has raised many eyebrows, with some reporters noting that Grant Smith, the man who sought the release of the document, had been trying to obtain them for three years. Although Smith’s first FOIA request was about that long ago, his court case was only filed in September of 2014. From that point the timing seems about normal for a response to a document request.

That's right. You don't. Which pretty much clarifies how the President views Israel.

But Iran. Them we can trust! :doh

Obama, you stupid ****ing child.

Really? You get butthurt because you're not the center of the Israeli universe and so you pull this?

Thanks, dickweed. Thank you for lowering the quality of American partnership all over the world. Everyone is going to rush to share information with us now that they know that as soon as you don't think you're the prettiest little girl in class that you're going to spill the beans as a way of passively aggressively getting back at others.

Geeze. even for this administration, this was petulant.

Mornin CPW. :2wave: F&L had this up yesterday. So far none really ask why the specifics were shown with Israel yet not with others. Even though the Report validates our other allies have them too.

Those same close allies that just watched what we did won't be so trusting of BO and these Democrats anymore.

FOIA requests are denied all the time, particularly by this administration, when the information requested is still classified, or would be otherwise damaging to US security, or the security of our partners.

More importantly - every intelligence sharing relationship we have comes with the agreement that we will treat your information exactly as you want it to be treated. Meaning that if you have something that we would label "Confidential", but you label it "Top Secret", then we will label it "Top Secret" and treat it as such. If you want it kept within a SAP, we will keep it within a SAP. We do these things because that is how mature people maintain intelligence sharing relationships - they build and maintain trust. We don't release classified information about from or on an ally without that ally's permission.

Not only did the administration make the explicit decision to allow this information to be released, they did so in violation of our agreement with the Israelis.

He has increased the risk of harm on US National Security, increased the risk of harm on all Americans overseas, increased the risk of harm to all our overseas businesses.

Now he has increased the risk of harm on a trusted ally.

Like you said CPW.....he trusts Iran. Who just took his trophy of Yemen away, while giving him a good kick in the ass. He has allowed Iran to gain and control Iraq. To top this off, the Putz.....has armed Hezbollah via Lebanon. Giving Hellfire missiles to them. Heavy Equipment.

Who cannot see that BO favors a US enemy and has given aid to that enemy. Just how do we explain that we are helping to attack Iran's allies. While at the same time.....helping Iran in Iraq while siting down and negotiating with them over a Nuke deal. While helping Shia in Lebanon and Hezbollah gain access to heavy weapons.

How do we explain to the Sunni and Saud who we are aiding and assisting to fight Iran.....while at the same time allow Iran to gain control over the Sunni, which is a direct slap to the Sauds face while putting a boot up their ass.

What really ticks me off.....is the Republicans and Democrats are seeing this, and you know what the asswipes are doing. They are going home on break for a couple of weeks. ARE they out of their ****ING MINDS?

This was entirely predictable. A wonder that none of the right-wing sources foaming at the mouth mentioned this part.

Whats really a wonder is why Left wing sources.....and their wingers can't fully grasp all that was done. Yet for some reason.....they say they use smart power. They really should stop using that term.

Another highly suspicious aspect of the document is that while the Pentagon saw fit to declassify sections on Israel's sensitive nuclear program, it kept sections on Italy, France, West Germany and other NATO countries classified, with those sections blocked out in the document.

The revelation marks a first in which the US published in a document a description of how Israel attained hydrogen bombs. The report also notes research laboratories in Israel "are equivalent to our Los Alamos, Lawrence Livermore and Oak Ridge National Laboratories," the key labs in developing America's nuclear arsenal. Israel's nuclear infrastructure is "an almost exact parallel of the capability currently existing at our National Laboratories," it adds.

Declassifying the report comes at a sensitive timing as noted above, and given that the process to have it published was started three years ago, that timing is seen as having been the choice of the American government. US journalist Grant Smith petitioned to have the report published based on the Freedom of Information Act. Initially the Pentagon took its time answering, leading Smith to sue, and a District Court judge to order the Pentagon to respond to the request.....snip~

You are assuming more distinctions than maybe they see :( They won't be so trusting of us anymore.

I don't think most those folks are going to make the distinction between a Republican and a Democrat. Their leaders might but not the people.

See Post 31. FOIA requests that involve foreign intelligence have to be approved by the partner nation, or else they violate our information-sharing agreements.

Well, I would go with assurances of Purging any of BO's people and any Democrats that are part of this.....out of all government.

As well as making BO peep Irrelevant upon the day he hits pasture.

The MS media needs to be brought to task as to why they would influence US National Security and not think they will pay a price.

Soooo... what is worse for US/Iranian anti-Nuke talks:

1) A US Senator writing a blog explaining US civics.

Or

2) Releasing top secret documents that reveal Iran's most hated enemy already has nukes

So, i guess Iran is now cool, and isreal is the enemy.

hooray Legacy building!

Why would their leaders trust Republican Administrations with information, knowing eventually they would be replaced by Democrats?

It's tough to be worse at foreign policy than Jimmy Carter.

But man. This guy really blew threw that floor, didn't he?

It's truly ****ing insane. Have you seen that propaganda piece on the "Angel of Baghdad"? makes me sick the **** they try to sell us these days.

Cmon now.....you can't see a remedy to that situation.

#1 demonstrates that we are not speaking with one voice, which could hurt the talks, but that's just the U.S. functioning as designed.

#2 is an open secret. Israel has nukes for decades. Iran already knew. My guess is they requested the formal acknowledgment as part of the negotiations. I strikes me as a minor concession.

That is the real point.

That once again Obama has sacrificed the long term for his short term political will. Once again in so many of dealings he has jeopardized not just the relationship with Israel, but ALL of US allies.

Who will really want to share anything with Washington now.

There is only ONE reason Obama did this, to counter Netanyahu's argument when he spoke to congress.

That's it. Image politics.

To him it's like leaking dirt on a political opponent.

This has really nothing to do with Obama. Nice try though.

It's Official: The Pentagon Finally Admitted That Israel Has Nuclear Weapons, Too
While the Washington press corps obsessed over Hillary Clinton's emails at the State Department, reporters were missing a far more important story about government secrets. After five decades of pretending otherwise, the Pentagon has reluctantly confirmed that Israel does indeed possess nuclear bombs, as well as awesome weapons technology similar to America's.

Early last month the Department of Defense released a secret report done in 1987 by the Pentagon funded Institute for Defense Analysis that essentially confirms the existence of Israel's nukes. DOD was responding to a Freedom of Information lawsuit filed by Grant Smith, an investigative reporter and author who heads the Institute for Research: Middle East Policy. Smith said he thinks this is the first time the US government has ever provided official recognition of the longstanding reality.

You believe that ****? Classified information is not covered under FOIA

You believe that ****? Classified information is not covered under FOIA

Classified documents may be requested under the FOIA. An agency can review the document to determine if it still requires protection. In addition, the Executive Order on Security Classification establishes a special procedure for requesting the declassification of documents. If a requested document is declassified, it can be released in response to an FOIA request. However, a document that is declassified may be still be exempt under other FOIA exemptions.

Just what do you think that proves? oh yeah, that it's declasified by agency or executive.... who decided this wasn't classified anymore?

The timing isn't suspect to you?

Why were other NATO countries redacted in the release?
