Walmart Threatened Workers For Trying To Organize, Judge Rules

I guess in liberal lala land, you would be forced to remain open despite financial losses.

evidently that is the case. wonder how I am to pay workers with no money to pay them with?

Dude, I worked for over thirty years with sick days.

"I won't be in tomorrow, I have some business".

"Do you have enough time?"

"Yeah, I have 10 days left"

"Okay; have a good day".

(Use'em or lose'em)

Management thuggery sets up draconian rules like you are referring to: "miss one day of work and you're fired!" What kind of cap is that? Non union companiens have PTO, so you're just making it up as you're going along I think.

Did you even read my post? Did you accidentally quote me? Because your response has nothing to do with what I posted.

I liberal utopia I suspect you would be subsidized with taxpayer dollars. Oh wait, we already have that. But only for certain sectors that pass the lib smell test, like "green" energy.  No soup for Walmart!!!

you have no clue about what you are talking about.

most companies do not have PTO time only a few here and there. most have vacation/personal/sick.
what you mentioned would be personal time not sick time.

sick time is reserved for being sick.

you not calling into work in any company is grounds for termination union or not.

It's sound advice, Deuce. You wouldn't work at mickey D's because of the pay, would you? You would get a different job.
Mickey D's isn't a career job for most of the employees and they know that.

Why don't you get a job that pays better than the one you have now?

there should be a way to move up the ranks, much like in the military. not everyone in the military is a general, but not everyone is a private, either. if i were running the union, that's what i'd ask for instead of unrealistically high base pay.

You still didnt answer

What % of a companys workers should be in management positions?

And you cant just promote someone for being there a long time, they might not want to move father up the ladder and some might not be qualified or have the skill to move up to the next level. Not to mention that shouldnt the best person for fhe promotion get it regardless of tenure?

Yes, but your idea of "management thuggery" does not comport with reality.

Sure it does: for managements that use such tactics: walmart being one of them. Many of the companies that I worked for were quite good, very relaxed and had a seniority list that reflected that by being very dependable, helpful and supportive of the company. Others, Roadway being one, were quite draconian in their approach and practice and their seniority list did the minimum, fought with management and won consistently. The shop stewards were turned into sharks constantly patrolling and looking for openings to attack the management and keep them in heel. It was not a good environment and why I refused to make the seniority list there; I just worked for them on a casual basis when there was nothing else going on.

Companies get the workforce they deserve: that is reality.

nope closing a business due to lack of profit is perfectly legal it happens all the time.

Not during an organizing drive.

In unreal conservative land the rights of individuals are routinely denied.

it is only in the contract if the business agree's to it. sick days are to be used as sick does not protest days or anything else.
nope using a sick day to protest is fraud.

nope most companies have the same policy and people are fine it with. companies got tired of people abusing sick days and then needing off when they were really sick.

Dude; I'm talking about organized companies. Organized companies have either "sick days", as the have always been called, or "Personal Time Off (PTO)" wherein the number of days are mandated by the contract. Now, in your nonunion world, you can do whatever you ever want: walmart certainly has and the results speak for themselves.

Says the person with the collectivist mindset. Oh the irony.

Please cite the actual law prohibiting this.

It's right there in the OP! (chuckle) go read it. An administrative law judge is an NLRB judge. The organizing union filed an unfair labor practice against walmart and won a judgement.

Yeah; constitutional rights are collective, yeah, sure they are.

Okay okay, sorry, I missed it.

No trouble. I think that sometimes perhaps people's prejudices run away with them. I can tell you from direct experience that organized companies have more productive and happier work forces: being in a union removes a lot of stress from a person and they don;t have to be so vigilant because management has some bad apples. They show up for work more consistently, they feel on an equal level with management. Management's labor costs, insurance costs and usual overtime are predetermined and stable. The work force in particular is more stable. Non union companies have notoriously high turnover rates because they don't pay well, they work part time and have their schedules shifted all the time and people want more stability. That's a big problem for walmart and these fast food companies and that's why the organizing drives are getting bigger and bigger: I've been telling conservatives for years now that this would start to happen, and low and behold!

What brings it on is the draconian hubris of companies like walmart and Mcdonald's: happens every time.

In other words, you got nuthin'. Lol.....

I've followed this issue on this forum for years. I'm pretty aware of the nuances of the case. To state otherwise would be to ignore 8+ years on this forum. Thom Payne's question is akin to asking what the abortion debate is about 50 years after Roe v. Wade. If you don't know by now...

doesn't matter if the store can't stay in business then the store can't stay in business.
organizing or not.

Under contracts with the Teamsters they known as "sick days". Vacation was something else. And you just said yourself: "personal" time. That's what sick days were for. Now, not calling in is something else. Many companies won't terminate for the first offense: under a contract, you can and usually will get a warning letter: after 6 months they can;t be used against you in the future. With some it's a year.

As for knowing what I'm talking about, I do. The trouble is I sometimes take for granted that others know what I'm referring to.

completely untrue.

however doing an illegal strike as these workers did the company had every right to do whatever they did. they are not a union nor are they represented by a union.
even if they were to get a union there is nothing that says the company has to comply with union demands.

they can simply hire other people willing to work.
plenty of people out there making 0 that would love to make 11 bucks an hour.

You're not getting it, and I think you're making it up as you go along.

IF a company is in financial trouble, then the employees will know it way ahead of time because you can't keep a secret like that, so why organize. If during an organizing campaign, the company suddenly declares that they're in financial trouble and will close or move, that is an illegal and unfair labor practice under the law. That's why walmart got stuck.

IF what you're trying to say is true, then walmart wouldn't have gotten stuck by the law now would they?

Define for me an illegal strike.

we are not talking teamsters we are talking real world. in the real world if you call in sick to much or are not sick and call in sick you get in trouble
and possibly lose your job.

as I said. if you worked for me called in sick and were caught at a protest you would be written up no doubt about it.
you lied for not being sick.

you caused someone else to have to work over or come in for your shift so you could screw off.
