WASHINGTON — Nothing unifies Washington like the Nazis, even if it takes a while.After 15 years of largely rejected complaints to the federal bureaucracy, the House of Representatives voted 420-0 Tuesday to deny federal benefits to Nazi suspects after learning that many were receiving Social Security checks.
Although at least one member of the House had been trying unsuccessfully to turn off the checks for years, Congress was prodded to act by an Associated Press investigation in October that found “dozens of suspected Nazi war criminals and SS guards who collected millions of dollars in Social Security payments after being forced out of the United States.”

Surprised it took so long to even bring this to a vote. I guess a way for members to collectively declare they are "anti-Nazi" when the problem is almost over? But hey, glad it was unanimous! :)

I dislike Nazis as much or more than any one, but you should not act against them on a governmental level simply on the basis of suspicion. This just entirely pisses me off, as it goes against what I believe in very strongly, that the government cannot penalize people without proof.
 
Didn't these people pay into social security? I don't think I want the government to renege on its promises based on political affiliation, even to people as reprehensible as Nazis. And I am especially concerned that the people in question are merely suspected Nazis. We don't discriminate like that based on political beliefs. The first amendment protects even the most horrific political positions, and this seems like a significant infringement of that protection. Especially for people who are merely suspected of being part of a party or organization. It sounds to me like McCarthyism and I am very uncomfortable with that.

My thoughts exactly. When we go down the path which says government may penalize someone based on suspicion, not even of any specific crime, but of holding a very negative ideological stance, and punish based on that, there is a serious flaw in what is happening in DC.
 
Now, cut off social security to illegal aliens.

Amen. If they are employed and pay into social security they should receive the benefits just like everyone else. They are Americans entitled to the rights of all Americans, including murderers, child molesters and even politicians.

The game the left plays with this is restricting it to retirement benefits.

Illegals can and do collect SSI.
