No Deal: Iran nuclear talks extended until July 1

No deal was met. The talks have been extended to July 1. Sides agree that they need to hammer out the details, but sides are saying that progress was made in the talks. The details that could not be hammered out were a certain facility, and sanctions against Iran.

You need seven months to "hammer out details"?

I smell BS.

Let them take their time and get it right. There is nothing worse than being rushed into a bad deal or making a deal just for the sake of a deal. I'm fine with this.

The "BS" being???

I'm all for taking your time but SEVEN MONTHS!?!?! Not including all the time they've taken up until now.

Time, how much time does not bother me. Perhaps the important thing is what is in place now remains in place until a deal, if there is a deal.

You know what it does tell me? They aren't in a hurry to make a deal. Let's face it, we're not solving world hunger here. They could get a deal in place right now if both sides wanted to. What this tells me is that one side really doesn't want it. And if it's the one that I think it is, then I think we have a problem.

We had a problem long before the talks began. We still have the same problem, only now there is a bit of hope that all of this could be settled peaceable. The way I look at it, so far we have not signed into a bad deal. That in itself give me the little hope I have. I half expected a signed one sided deal just to make a deal. That didn't happened, so I let out a sigh of relieve. We will see what happens, could be good, could be bad, could be nothing at all.

Put it to you another way then, after all this time the deal has been in affect (around a year yes?), why should there be any hope that a deal would be made in the next seven months. At some point, both sides have said all that needs to be said don't they? I actually think that the lack of a deal now, means violent action from Israel in the next six months is more likely (less than 50% but definitely stronger).

We'll see what happens. Would you rather both sides or our sides just calls the talks off?

If the U.S. was serious about getting a substantive deal we would ratchet up the sanctions. Give Iran some motivation to get a deal done.

I don't know how long the sanctions have been in place, but one thing is for sure, Iran was going full speed ahead with them. Besides with sanctions to work other countries have to go along and enforce them to the hilt. That wasn't being done. Other countries always put their own economic interests first, no one can blame them for that. I am not sure sanctions have ever worked. Most of the time they just make life tougher on the little people while the elite continue to live in luxury.

A couple of things. Sanctions are just about the only peaceful leverage we have with Iran. Next, sanctions hardly ever work when you talk about stuff that gets imported into a country. However the power of these sanctions was on their exporting of oil, of which there is now a glut so other producers would be happy to pick up the slack and on their banks as all oil transactions are made in dollars.

Let's hope you're right.
