Senate Democrats are looking at taking a vote in the lame-duck session starting today to force approval of TransCanada Corp. (TRP)’s Keystone XL pipeline, in an effort to bolster Louisiana Democrat Mary Landrieu’s re-election chances, a party aide said.

The purpose of the vote would be symbolic: To highlight Landrieu’s support for the pipeline and her influence on energy issues in Washington -- a centerpiece of her campaign. A vote in favor of the pipeline may benefit Landrieu in her Dec. 6 runoff election, in which she faces Republican Representative Bill Cassidy.

Similar measures have failed to advance in the Senate this year and Democratic leaders who now run the chamber will have trouble mustering the votes for passage now. President Barack Obama could veto the measure.....snip~

Looking to try and take some wind of the Republicans sail, huh. Not only are they looking to help Landrieu but they are trying to find out who in the Demo party will support this and if there will be enough to override BO's Veto. What say ye?

Lame ducks almost always get things done because it doesn't matter anymore. They should try to set back the Senate rules so that they can filibuster.

Mornin' 88. :2wave: Well its still Symbolic.....Reid I am sure wants to check with BO if he should let it pass.

This is a desperate attempt by Landrieau to keep from getting her ass voted out.

That's all it is. Reid could have scheduled this vote any time over the last couple of years. That he does it now only to help influence the vote is just more evidence of how corrupt Senate dems like Reid truly are.

Mornin Fletch. :2wave: It's not going to work anyways.....she ran on and voted for BO care. Then ran away from talking about it. DSCC has already pulled their funding and TV ads. Without a third party to help her with numbers. She is done.

Also.....if the Demos were to actually pass this. Then it would just need to go to BO's desk.

Let him decide with the thoughts of the Unions which are supporting this.

She does wear it well.....Do you think her Walkin' Shoes matches that desperation.

Update: Republicans Strike Back.....As Boehner and the House will vote On the Pipeline this Friday. Yep tomorrow! So much for Harry Reid's Symbolic vote. ;)

As Senate Race Looms, House to Vote on Keystone Pipeline Friday.....

The House of Representatives plans to vote on a bill to approve the Keystone XL oil pipeline on Friday, a congressional aide said on Thursday as lawmakers prepared to debate the controversial project.

The legislation, which is expected to pass the Republican-led chamber, would approve the pipeline that would run from Canada south to the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. The Senate could take up the bill next week, possibly on Tuesday, setting up a potential showdown with the White House.....snip~

Even funnier is Landrieu bringing her own bill into the Senate.
