Jesse Ventura (a veteran) ‘I Would Be a Conscientious Objector’

It's hard to judge from two sentences but that does seem an unqualified disapproval of the military complex today.

He could be thinking of drone warfare and going after terrorists in 3rd world, compared to conventional war with a more visible threat to the homeland. He could be thinking of war profiteering like halliburton, which used to be not at all tolerated. This is why i wouldn't grant an interview unless i was gonna clarify and make damn sure they printed that.

Then again, was it so different when Ventura was a Seal? Was the military "fighting for our freedom" during vietnam? That hasn't really been the case since WW2

And I would object to a 9/11 truther being held up as some sort of model of objectivity, on veterans day no less. Ventura is a ****ing clown.

Here is a more complete report from CNN:

Former wrestler and Minnesota governor Jesse Ventura has some harsh words for the armed forces this Veterans Day: If given the option today, he'd opt out of military service.

"I hate to say it, but no, I would be a conscientious objector today," the Navy special forces veteran said in a video posted Tuesday. "I don't believe that the military fights for our freedom."

"They give them all the ra ra at the stadiums, and they cheer 'em on," said Ventura, who served as a Reform Party governor of the North Star state from 1999 to 2003. "But when the veterans come home, we pretty much forget about them. They're old news. They're yesterday's garbage. And it's time to move on to the next war." Jesse Ventura: Military doesn't 'fight for our freedom' - CNN.com

Ventura didn't "hate" to say what he said; he seized the opportunity. Self-aggrandizing on Veterans Day ftl.

Once again Jesse is spot on!

I was thanked yesterday by 3 different people for my "serving our country" back in the Vietnam era.

I thanked in return for the kind words and thoughts, but had to point out to each that there is a difference between "a country" and "its government", and that the truth was that I was in the service of the latter, and its mission in Southeast Asia was not legitimate.

lol he's a conspiracy theorist, who cares what he says?

He's not wrong about the "ra ra" followed by "screw you" though.

Ugh. Is he still around? The guy is a first class loon. He's a 9/11 truther.

Thanks Minnesota for bringing him to the rest of us.

Does this mean that the only Navy Seals you consider to be heroic or brave or whatever are those who parrot the official government line? WMD and shooting OBL?

He probably just means that Ventura is crazy.

He is a wack job. But he is also correct in this case.

The Meek might inherit the earth, but otherwise they don't accomplish much. Military breeds aggression, as everybody knows. There are a few good men, and Jesse is one of them, warts and all.

Personally, I don't see the warts because I admire his bravery so much.
