Sheriffs Plan Massive Gathering in Washington to Oppose Executive Amnesty

Sheriffs across the country are planning a massive gathering in Washington, D.C., to speak out against President Obama’s potential executive action on immigration.

Sheriff Thomas M. Hodgson of Bristol County, Mass., sent a letter to organize a meeting of sheriffs in Washington, D.C., on December 10, two days before the existing government-funding bill expires, to meet with congressmen and encourage them to take action to secure the border.

“Never before in our nation’s history has it been so important for the American sheriffs to stand united and speak with one voice to secure our nation’s borders,” Hodgson wrote. “Senator Jeff Sessions, Senator David Vitter and other members of Congress have agreed to join us at the Capitol to demand immediate action to secure our borders as the first step in achieving legitimate immigration reform in the future. Several sheriffs have agreed to work in a spirit of cooperation to assist in recruiting at least 200 sheriffs to travel to Washington, D.C. for this historic meeting and press conference with members of Congress.”

I would hazard to say that making sure they are allowed to enforce the law and protect the law abiding citizens of their jurisdiction, is their job.

Opposing the Messiah would be a capitol offense punishable by death... If liberals had their way.


As for your comment, you do realize that a Sheriff isn't a cop on the beat don't you? A county Sheriff is the equivalent of a cities police commissioner.

because they oppose Obama, or because they are taking time off? Kind of rash to assume they would be abandoning their posts when their objective is fighting crime and having the tools to do it.

Ever heard of days off? Deputies? Or do you really think that these people work 24/7/365 fighting crime all by their lonesome?

What law would that be? The "law" predicated on the notion that because someone's last name is Gonzalez they're coming to rob your house and take your jobs?

No. That would be the law that says Gonzales can't cross the border without doing so legally. Of course, once doing so illegally, the type of person Gonzales is has been established.

They have deputy sheriffs for that.

County Sheriffs can't be fired, they are elected by the people as the chief law enforcement officers of a county.

In some states in the west they are also the commanders of the unorganized militia's.

Right, I'm well aware of that.

And all of these sheriffs were elected or appointed to do that job, enforcing laws, and etc.

They certainly weren't put in their Sheriffs positions so that they could go to Washington, D.C for political reasons. If they want to spend their time politicking they should quit their Sheriff's positions.

I know that is their stated position, but I find it curious that so many of them, so often, wish violence and death to people who oppose their ideological views.

It looks to me like their objective right now is to waste time in Washington railing against the Obama administration.

This is all about partisan politics.

No, it's about their president bypassing the very laws that they are sworn to uphold.

I realize that the rule of law to you is as meaningless as the constitution is to liberals, but the majority of Americans still believe it has meaning and nobody, not even the president, should be able to pick and choose what laws they will abide by, and which laws they will ignore.

Oh, and there's this question... Will those Sheriffs going to Washington result in less law enforcement personnel being on the streets and leave the public less protected?

You don't need to answer, because I'm going to do it for you... The answer is NO and NO... So why don't you just tell them to sit down and STFU, and stop making bogus excuses.

In Louisiana the parish sheriffs are the tax collectors.

All of these guys have jobs to do and they shouldn't be wasting time in Washington.

They will accomplish nothing there, wait and see.
