See now, there's the problem. Libs want government not only in marriage, but in any damn thing they can get it in, as long as they think it will get them votes.

Taking the govt out of marriage is the exact opposite of "conservative". Maybe you shold reconsider your lean.

No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.
 
If you want a class protected Constitutionally, get it amended. Don't rely on courts to do what the minority cannot...

We don't need another amendment. The 14th already necessitates marriage equality.

In case you have been hiding in a hole, there isn't a grand awakening of conservatives wanting the government to get out of marriage either. The majority of conservaties AND the GOP aren't doing a damn thing about government being involved in marriage. Cons love using big government to be the morality police.

Well, in that case then thanks for the offer of removing government from marriage for the sake of gay people, but as government is now coming around to giving them equal rights that offer won't be necessary any longer.

It wouldn't be an issue if the government wasn't in the marriage business. It's like this: once you grant the government the power to give a right, you also grant the government the power to take it away.

I propose that this isn't a "rights" issue but a drama issue. We have "Civil Unions" in Colorado. I am all for Civil Unions. Civil Unions give people the same legal rights and benefits as married people but the gay community is still pushing to modify the definition of marriage. Why is that if it is a "Rights" issue if they already have the same rights?

That won't happen either. Hell, there isn't a single Republican in congress who ran on that premise. It's a dead issue for them for the most part. 30+ states already have it +DC. Please stop pretending 'getting out of gay marriage' is a reasonable suggestion. It's not going to happen.

You'll have to show where heterosexuals "own" the right to the word marriage. And please don't use religion as "marriage" is done also by the Justice of the Peace (non-religious). Words change or are modified all the time.
