Actually, both are valid claims. The same claims can be made for ANY law that requires ID or a user fee (like gun control laws). If simply requiring ID is a "poll tax" then it must also be an infringement on the right to keep and bear arms. ;)

The Dems want to push every idiot looking for free government stuff they can round up into that voting and the GOP wants to stop it.

The problem with voter ID laws is that if someone doesn't have a valid ID, getting one is a bit complicated, due to the whole dealing with bureaucracy thing.

Thus any voter ID law MUST (repeat MUST) have significant provisions to make acquiring a valid ID simple and above all free.
Up to and including advertising locations, perhaps truck/vans driving around with mobile ID stations, and so forth.

Better would be just creating a photo ID when a person shows up to vote the first time.
The problem there is what info they require to make it valid - if we're talking multiple sources of data on your name, etc., not everyone (FEW people, really) is going to have that on hand, and I'd say a goodly percentage won't even know where to find it.

For many people, making the process more complex than just going to the polling place is going to dissuade them from voting.

Anyone too stupid to get an ID that is required to buy a bottle of Mad Dog 20/20 shouldn't be allowed to vote. In fact, anyone who doesn't own land and/or pay taxes shouldn't be on the voting rolls........they have no skin in the game.

Again, the NAACP is an organization that promotes the advancement of blacks - not right wing politicians who will spend every minute they have in Congress opposing programs that benefit blacks and the poor. I'm amazed at all of you right wing folks who are just amazed that black organizations and black voters don't sing songs of joy because two more right wing hacks have been elected to Congress.

that being the case, you'd expect the NAACP to cheer the accomplishments of any black person, regardless of any other considerations?

I don't think so - that stuff is left to the Far Right, who never met a right wing loon they didn't love.

Don't know........haven't checked Stormfront in awhile.........doubt they are too concerned about two conservative colored folks making it into Congress. Check with the ADL and SPLC for a full rundown paid for by frightened contributors.......can't make money without a 'boogeyman'

We're not surprised. We're just taking a minute to appreciate the hypocrisy. They aren't about Advancing Colored Persons. They are about advancing Liberal Colored Persons.

You have to be a member to get their attention and support? So when did Michael Brown become a member of the NAACP - can you share that? They "mourn the shocking loss of Michael Brown". They have a whole plan dedicated to demanding justice for his death. If he wasn't a member, why are they worried about him?
