DHS Agents Raid Lingerie Shop, Save America From Unlicensed Underwear

One woman's act of terror is another man's act of freedom. F R E E D O M!

PS Rangers suck.

Hahahahhahhahahhahh!!!! Rangers rule. They rocked last night! How can you not love 5 goals in the 3rd? And Anthony Duclair (aka Hot New Ranger)scored his first NHL goal, the first of many to come. We got to enjoy the fabulous spectacle after coming home from the debate. It was better than sex.

So how would this problem have been avoided without DHS?

it's not just this issue alone. homeland security could have been handled through existing infrastructure. likewise, the patriot act was an enormous overreach. both were passed during an emotional time for the country, and that's never a good time to rush something through.

But it is a great opportunity for the government to seize yet more power.

the Bill of Rights took a beating after 9/11, that's for sure. it was comparable to the drug war, except in a much shorter period of time.

I agree. My argument was that even without DHS the result would have been the same.

i don't necessarily disagree. DHS was a redundant agency from its inception. where we disagree is the argument that stupid actions like this warrant a broad, sweeping condemnation of government in general. to make that argument is analogous to liberals who find something slimy that a corporation did and then use it to condemn all corporations and capitalism.

I believe that's called a generalization.
And that both parties and all sides are guilty of one from time to time.

My point was meant to be silly ... as silly as it is for the DHS to raid a shop for underwear.
just what we need-a federal panty raid

How doesnt it? This action is an example of why we dont want DHS, which is an example of why govt is too big. Its all the same thing. That was my point.

does Enron condemn capitalism as a failure? does Thalidomide condemn modern medicine as a whole?

reality is more nuanced than a bumper sticker slogan.

You already used that one.

BTW, what does the FBI do anymore? Seems we have other agencies doing pretty much all law enforcement these days.

Law enforcement enforces law, outrage ensues

No outrage here, however it does seem as though DHS shouldn't be the right agency. Perhaps it is, but it shouldn't be, it should be, based on anything I can tell, defending against threats of violence or conspiracies to commit violence, etc. Somehow clothing fraud just doesn't seem to be of a level of threat as to warrant DHS involvement at all. Glad they were caught, have no problem with fraudulent merch being found and those involved prosecuted on a federal level, just the DHS part is a bit off, imo.

We seem to have a lot of overlap in the federal law enforcement world. We need to do one of two things...

1) Eliminate the overlap and assign definitive duties, or

2) Consolidate the myriad of law enforcement agencies into a single agency.

It was actually ICE who is under the DHS. You can argue that DHS is huge and bloated with to many parts but the suggestions being made that the same agents who executed this cease and desist order are the same ones who fight terror are just silly.

Oh, I didn't catch that detail. Thank you. That makes more sense now. And panties or not, if it was my product that was being counterfeit, I'd want the appropriate agency to handle it. So then I'm not sure what the point of the OP even was.
