Rare albino deer bagged by 11-year-old - GrindTV.com

"“He should have let it live. There are plenty of others out there,” reads one of hundreds of comments.
“If it’s rare, why the hell would he kill it?” reads another.
“I’m fine with hunting, just hate the ‘Hey look, it’s different, let’s shoot it’ ideas. Shoot it with a camera and let the unique one live,” reads yet another.Deer-hunting in Michigan is an extremely popular pastime, so it’s not surprising that so many wrote in defense of Gavin Dingman.“Get over it. The law says it’s legal. Back off the kid!!! Way to go kiddo!!” reads one comment.
“He paid good money for his license. He can use it for anything HE chooses, ” reads another. “Whether it be a brown deer or an albino buck, the state of Michigan gave him permission to kill it. Leave the kid alone. He did nothing wrong. He harvested a great trophy.”
Some of the commenters criticized WZZM 13 for posting the story on Facebook, opening Gavin to criticism.
“WZZM should stick with reporting news, not trying to make an 11-year-old boy feel guilty for shooting a deer, during deer season,” reads one comment."

"Some native cultures revere the white animals, and believe that they possess the spirits of ancestors."
Do you think this is in bad taste? Blame the kid? Blame the dad? No problem whatsoever?

Until the law says it is illegal to shoot this kind of deer I see no reason to make the kid feel guilty about it. He didn't do anything wrong.

That would make an awesome mount!

Besides, I'm not sure but I suspect his breeding opportunities would have been limited anyway considering that a deer's coloration isn't only camouflage to human hunters.

Yeeeeah, albino prey don't usually last long.

I hope they dress out the animal and consume it. If it was killed for the sake of killing it and putting it's head on the wall of someones den, that's wrong.

That dear looks to be just now legal this season. It wouldn't have made it through the season/ Glad it went to someone who will see it as a lifetime story. That is as long as the meat and hide aren't wasted.

Meh, he wouldn't have lasted that long out in the wild on his own anyway. I take no issue with it.

It's surprising that it has lived as long as it did, given the obvious disadvantages it had.

I wonder what they're going to do with the hide? A deerskin with hair that could be dyed any color would be valuable to people who tie their own flies.

So you would rather it starve in the wild. Sweet.

why in the **** would you want to kill it? that is ****ing stupid.

I wonder if it tastes different?
I used to trade a neighbor Flounder for venison sausage.
makes me hungry just thinking about it!

That deer, while beautiful. Got to live all its life in the wild. Then has given its life to help feed someone. Unlike them steaks you had the other day where the steer or cow lived a life of crowded pens only to have a rod stuck in its brain.

This is in Michigan, and the deer population in the state is too large. Hunting is important to keep the number of deer down to a reasonable number. Car/deer accidents are far too common, they can damage crops badly, and many starve in the winters due to overpopulation. Hunting is a sport done for fun, for food, for trophies. That is how it works.

Where this happened is about an hour and a half from where I grew up. It is pretty rural and hunting is such a big part of the culture than opening day of gun dear season is a paid day off for many businesses, and going hunting is an excused absence from school. Whitetail deer are beautiful animals, especially at a distance, and this one was too, but hunting them is necessary and provides multiple benefits, including the trophy. While they will probably process it(why waste meat), even if they do not, it is fine.

Maybe the retard in the video will cry over the deer.

More deer are killed each year by cars than hunters. Usually it is alot more painful and drawn out than those killed by hunters. That is just one reason.

Venison. The OTHER white meat. Yummy.

Umm, to eat it. Just a guess.

i'm not anti-gun, and i don't want to take away the right to hunt. i used to fish myself, until i realized what an unfair fight that it was. i would do it for survival and to feed my family if i needed to. however, seeing a rare animal and then putting a bullet into it just seems more sad than cool.

Plus, venison tastes better than beef.

and it's leaner and better for you.

Still, if the folks there decide they don't like hunting, they're welcome to some of our California mountain lions. Import a few, and they'll make more baby mountain lions that will grow up to kill deer and make even more mountain lions. They repopulate like, well, like cats.

We don't have a lot of deer here any more. Mountain lions are one big reason why.

I really never could get to where I liked venison. Something in the flavor was just too strong for me. I could eat it, it was not terrible, but I would take beef, pork, chicken, fish over it any day and twice on Sunday. However, in place of ground beef in sauces and such worked great. Venison goulash was delicious, with enough other flavors that whatever it was I did not like about venison was overpowered.

It was an arrow not a bullet.

It would have been even sadder if it starved, or if it got hit by a car(or semi, but then no one would have even known it was an albino, not much left when a semi at 70 MPH hits a deer except a red patch on the road). At least some one got something out of this.
