Sen Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) was laughed at by the audience at the New Hampshire Senate Debate on Tuesday when she would not give a clear answer on whether she approved of the job President Obama is doing.

When asked to give a simple, yes or no response to a hypothetical pollster asking, “do you approve of the job President Obama is doing?” Shaheen responded, “in some ways I approve, and some things I don't approve,” a line that caused the audience to start laughing. She continued “like most questions that we deal with as policymakers there aren’t simple answers, yes or no.”

So she votes with Obama 99% of the time and somehow can't answer the question?

Watching dems jump ship is well, entertaining. Anybody else want some popcorn? :popcorn2:

The audience must be idiots because that's a good answer. Almost no one agrees with a policy-maker all the time. For instance, Obama's stimulus and PPACA were good things but he hasn't hanged a single Republican and that's not.

She voted with Obama 99% of the time. Its not a good answer-its a politician's answer-if you don't see that you might be a liberal.
And she's not the only one trying to tap dance around Obama.

Why do YOU think the audience laughed?

I actually think this is a good answer. Much better than Grimes/Nunn/Tennant who can't make up their mind whether they voted for Obama or not.

She was specifically asked for a yes or no answer (kryptonite to politicians) and appears to be less than direct, though with more confidence than grimes. That carries its own political risks. Why do you think the audience laughed?

I don't get what you're so discontent with US conservative.

Some policies = yes

other policies = no

That is extremely direct, you're just being a hack.

If anyone was stupid, it was the guy who asked the question. Not everyone in the party is 100% unified on every issue, it would be stupid to think otherwise. Joesteel is right, the audience is filled with morons.

Are you sure the audience laughed AT her or at the silliness of the question being given and the straight-forward response to said stupid question?

Yes/No answers are just an extension of the problems of low information voting. As if the 30 and 60 second soundbites weren't bad enough.

The audience probably laughed because she refused to go along with the stupid choices, AND because she mostly supports Obama. But I respect a full answer more than a yes or no.

I'm pretty sure that Grimes was given the opportunity multiple times to expound upon her vote, but she flatly refused to discuss it.

She voted with Obama 99% of the time, I think a general yes or no answer is fitting, but in any case the democrat party tap dancing is still amusing to watch.

They mostly were Republicans and they needed something to reassure themselves of their own opinions.

It's also kryptonite to a good percentage of the liberals on this board.

No politician will, or should, allow the interviewer to create the message the politician wants to deliver. Interviewers can't be trusted to serve the public's interest with their questions.

You know, the audience did laugh. But I think she handled that question in a pretty savvy way. It is not like Grimes, perhaps Shaheen learned a bit from Grimes mistake. What she said makes sense regardless of her voting record and how many voters are going to go home and check out her record to see how many times or what percentage of times she supported the president.

So her answer is the interviewers fault? Where were you in the 2012 election? :lamo

True, but it still is fun watching the tapdance.

99% yes.

1% no.

What about 2012 is bothering you?

There were ****ty interviewers there as well, remember that hog in the Presidential debate?

Both sides have to deal with them so its just part of the game, right?

Back to the topic, why do you think the audience was mostly republican?
