Something I've been calling for in many posts for a week now.
What's the downside of Not allowing Flights or passengers from the 3 countries (maybe now 4)?
A few thousand Liberians/Sierra Leonese, Guineans have to delay visits to their relatives in the USA?
Is there any pressing World Business that MUST be conducted in person?
Some/many Liberians have relatives here. Liberia was a founded as a former USA slave colony.
Ebola has a 3 WEEK Incubation and many may not show symptoms until after arrival.
Obama must stop the BS PC/partiality.

What happens if someone infected lands in Mexico City, Honduras, or Bombay, instead of the USA?

British Airways, Emirates, and Kenya Airways, Have stopped flights.
This would NOT preclude [only] Special Precaution Charter Flights for aid workers and supplies.

Nearly two-thirds of Americans say they are concerned about an Ebola outbreak in the United States, and about the same amount say they want flight restrictions from the countries in West Africa where the disease has quickly spread.

A new poll from the Washington Post and ABC News shows 67% of people say they would support restricting entry to the United States from countries struggling with Ebola. Another 91% would like to see stricter screening procedures at U.S. airports in response to the disease’s spread.

Thus far, some countries in Europe have restricted flights from these countries in West Africa, and an increasing number of U.S. lawmakers are calling for similar bans. The White House has yet to increase restrictions, with federal officials saying such a move could actually increase the spread of the disease by hampering the movement of aid workers and supplies.

The support for increasing restrictions puts the White House in a tough spot. Given the moves by other countries and the American public’s stance, there is increasing pressure to act. And given the very real -- but still somewhat muted -- concerns about the disease, that's significant, especially if the disease continues to expand.

Texas Ebola Patient Flew on Night Before Symptoms Appeared, CDC Says - WSJ - WSJ

The second Texas health-care worker to be diagnosed with Ebola flew domestically the night before she reported symptoms, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Wednesday.

The woman flew on Frontier Airlines Flight 1143 from Cleveland to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport on Oct. 13, the CDC said. The patient didn’t exhibit symptoms during the flight, the CDC said, which could mean she wasn’t contagious at the time.

However, the agency and Frontier Airlines are now seeking 132 passengers from that flight.
The infected woman had flown to Cleveland from Dallas on Oct. 10 on Frontier Flight 1142, the CDC said.
The CDC is asking passengers who may have traveled on either flight to contact the agency at 1-800-CDC-INFO.

The patient, whose name wasn’t disclosed, was a health-care worker who treated a Liberian man diagnosed with Ebola at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas on Sept. 30. He died last Wednesday.

The woman began exhibiting symptoms of Ebola the morning after the Oct. 13 flight, which landed in Dallas at 8:16 p.m. local time on Monday.

Frontier Airlines said that after the Monday flight, “the aircraft received a thorough cleaning per our normal procedures, which is consistent with CDC guidelines.” The plane carried passengers on Tuesday and was cleaned again on Tuesday night, the airline said.
Immediately upon learning of the Ebola patient’s flight, the airline Removed the aircraft from service.

The hospital didn’t immediately respond to questions about why the health-care worker was on a commercial flight, a day after another worker had been diagnosed with the Ebola virus.

Wait till Flu season soon breaks out! It will be Hazmat suit Halloween in hospitals and Airlines.
Flights and/or passengers originating in the 3 or 4 West African countries must be barred here (USA/EU) or better yet, grounded.
The virus must be treated, and better yet, ISOLATED geographically, so as not to NEEDLESSLY endanger the rest of the planet.

I would be in favor of restrictions, protecting our citizens from a virus with no known cure is a prudent thing to do.
We have no proven safe guards against the virus.

Some Health officials are arguing that flight restrictions are counterproductive.

A top health expert warns against closing borders to stop Ebola

A top U.S. public health official warned Monday that imposing travel bans or closing off West Africa to stop the spread of Ebola virus could actually make the situation worse.

“It is understandable that thought, ‘Let’s just close them off.’ But that just doesn’t work,” Anthony S. Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, said on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends.”

“From a public health standpoint, that really doesn’t make any sense,” Dr. Fauci said. “To completely seal off and don’t let planes in or out of the West African countries involved, then you could paradoxically make things much worse in the sense that you can’t get supplies in, you can’t get help in, you can’t get the kinds of things in there that we need to contain the epidemic.”

Dr. Fauci’s warning came as a specially equipped airplane carrying the fifth American diagnosed with Ebola landed in Omaha, with the patient headed for Nebraska Medical Center.

The 33-year-old patient, Ashoka Mukpo, a freelance cameraman working with NBC News to cover the Ebola epidemic in West Africa, was diagnosed with the deadly virus Thursday.

Meanwhile, the first patient diagnosed with Ebola on U.S. soil continued to fight for his life at a Texas hospital. Another possible case of Ebola, this one involving a child, was being investigated at a Delaware hospital.


Still, Dr. Fauci cautioned Americas against the knee-jerk react to close the border to travelers form West Africa.

“The best way to protect America is to suppress the epidemic in West Africa,” Dr. Fauci said. “If we completely isolate them … we know from experience with public health, that marginalizes them. You can have civil unrest, [and] governments can fall. Then you wind up having spread of the virus to other countries in West Africa, which would only compound the problem.”

Five US airports will begin screening the temperatures of passengers arriving from West Africa as the United States ramps up its response to a deadly Ebola outbreak, officials said Wednesday. "The vast majority of people" coming from Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone -- the three countries hit hardest by the epidemic -- will be screened, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said.

The airports implementing the measures are John F. Kennedy International in New York, Washington Dulles International, Chicago O'Hare International, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International and Newark Liberty International in New Jersey. Together, the five hubs are the destination for 94 percent of people traveling to the United States from the three most affected countries......snip~

Special flights are not enough to supply the areas affected by ebola. The best way to protect Americans from ebola is to help the people of west Africa combat the virus.

So we can send people and supplies there, but the return flights are with those who have been quarantined for a 21 day period.
It doesn't have to be all or nothing.

Yes, Special flights, including Special Precaution Aid worker and supply flights and Military supply Drops, can EASILY Ferry the the 3000 Aid workers who would be spending a Month or more there. (EU the same)

There is NO reason to expose the rest of the UNEQUIPPED World to this Virus.

I don't think that screening goes far enough. Just taking a temp twice (leaving/arriving) can stop the spread. A person who is a carrier could still infect once he has arrived after a few days.

Agreed. Like you I've been saying this on DP for a long time now. Let the aid workers, military and CDC/WHO do their thing and stop the spread in Africa. I agree that must happen to stop this disease. It is ALSO true that the US healthcare system is not ready for Ebola, is not trained in Ebola and is ill equipped to handle it - therefore a temporary stop of inbound flights from these hot spot nations is required. They should not be allowed to board a plane from anywhere in the world where the US is a destination until the Ebola spread is halted and under control. Period.

If these west African country's suffering from ebola are cut off from contact with the outside world, the virus will be able to spread more quickly amongst countries expeirancing a breakdown of society.

I am arguing against measures that don't work to combat the spread of ebola and only serve to calm the panicking people in this country.

You're opinion flies in the face of reality. If Duncan was not able to travel to Dallas as he did and a temporary travel ban was put in place, the two nurses who currently have Ebola at the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital would not have it.

Well the Saudi said the most important step they took.....was to restrict and stop flights from the Ebola striken countries.

But that wont do us any good with those here that get infected..... then jumping on planes to go wherever in the US.

You're doing it wrong then...PC doesn't work with this issue.
Our government is here to protect it's citizens. Having an open door to those that could be potential carriers come to this country would only further the panic in this country.
It would only show we don't have any safe guards in place to stem an outbreak here.

No no... you didn't read my post. I don't support screenings. I support banning people from these hots spots from flying to the US period. Not screening them.

If we had the actual safeguards in place prior to the liar who came over here, we wouldn't have to be having this conversation.
