Police In Ferguson Lock Up Peaceful Daytime Protesters By Mistake, Chief Testifies

St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar, who helped oversee last month's aggressive response to protests in Ferguson, Missouri, said Monday that communications failures led police to lock up peaceful citizens during daytime hours.
Belmar testified in federal court about the so-called five-second rule that police in Ferguson allowed protestors before enforcing Missouri's law against refusing to disperse. Though the statute only applies to individuals who refuse a police order to leave an "unlawful assembly, or at the scene of a riot," police in Ferguson repeatedly demanded crowds disperse during protests last month of a police officer's fatal shooting of Michael Brown, 18, who was unarmed.

Tired of these authority figures (who sit behind a desk all day) being a ***** and making excuses when they want to test out their authority. Taking away American freedom and replying with a "oops" when it is what they intended. Arresting someone for stopping 5 seconds is absolutely ****ing bat**** insane. Day or night.

Tired of those idiot assholes tying up traffic, spewing trash everywhere, looting and stealing and chanting their moronic slogans. Should be three seconds then kick them in the balls.

I'm tired of all the clowns running around the country that think their sensitivities exempt them from the law.

Ferguson Police Are Still Locking Up Mike Brown Protesters, Even In Broad Daylight

FERGUSON, Mo. -- Nearly two months after police officer Darren Wilson gunned down unarmed teenager Michael Brown in this St. Louis suburb, protesters calling for Wilson's prosecution are still regularly being locked up by police, even when they are just standing on a public sidewalk in the middle of the day.

St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar said this week that a miscommunication led to the arrest of peaceful protesters during daytime hours during the height of the demonstrations in mid-August. But now that the Ferguson Police Department is back in charge of day-to-day operations -- and as much of the national media has disappeared -- police seem to be continuing a policy of "catch and release" that demonstrators believe is designed to discourage protests.

oh what do you know... This cops branch is filled with filthy liars.... If the chief cant even be trusted to tell the truth with stuff they do in open broad daylight then why trust any of their more extreme stories?

I think you missed the point of the article. The LAW allows them to protest, and the cops arrested them anyway.

And of course we have a conservative whining about people exercising their right to protest, which is only a right for people you like, and for all others it's at the discretion of the police.

Judge bars Ferguson officers from enforcing 'keep moving' rule | MSNBC

A federal judge on Monday issued an injunction barring police from enforcing what became known as “the five-second rule,” in which protesters in Ferguson, Missouri could only stay still for that brief amount of time. U.S. District Court Judge Catherine Perry ruled that the statute was unconstitutional because it violated protesters’ freedom of speech rights, as well as due process.

“[T]he policy fails to provide sufficient notice of what is illegal and because it was enforced arbitrarily,” wrote Perry in response to a case brought by the ACLU.

Well no ****... It took them this long just to fix the injustice? At least the judge finally got something done right. Im surprised the entire town didn't revolt with the 5 second rule.

Didn't you get the memo

Protest is only legit for conservative theme demostrations.

What the heck are you talking about?
There is no evidence of a lie in anything you provided in this thread.

Good point. The chief might not have lied about knowing his cops were arresting people during daylight hours for the bogus "keep moving" rule. He might have just been clueless about what the small force he commanded was doing and why many of those protesting in his jurisdiction were getting arrested! So, not a liar, just incompetent and lazy!

What an absurd reply.

What law was this protester breaking when he was locked up?

Did they have a permit?

Did you read the article? He said there was miscommunications, etc. He dodged responsibility for his own police force enforcing the bogus rule against peaceful protesters, journalists and others during daylight hours. I'm not impressed with his explanation. If he didn't know early on that the rule was being abused by his own officers, he damn sure should have. And he didn't. So incompetent or liar, you choose.

First amendment rights: only when conservatives do it.

Did they have a permit?

Yep..

It happened for a looooong time. And even after he said he knew about the "accident". So he is a liar.

Re: Police In Ferguson Lock Up Peaceful Daytime Protesters By Mistake, Chief Testifie

Did they have a permit?

Any evidence a permit was or is required for protesters to assemble on public property and exercise their rights as Americans? Regardless, they weren't arrested for illegally protesting, but for not moving while LEGALLY protesting. It's the point of the article. The law can be invoked only during unlawful protests, riots, etc.

Indeed! Why if people don't protest the way I think they should protest, government should intervene and physically assault them!

First amendment rights: only when conservatives do it.

Who said I felt any differently about conservatives doing it? But when was the last conservative protest where they tied up traffic, looted, stole and chanted slogans, leaving trash everywhere?

I know, right? Cause nothing says freedom like jackbooted thugs violently breaking up protest against government force.

I seriously doubt that there's a municipality in the country that doesn't require a permit. Deuce said they did have a permit. I asked a link. Did he post it?

Re: Police In Ferguson Lock Up Peaceful Daytime Protesters By Mistake, Chief Testifie

The police admitting the arrest was in error. If they lacked a permit, the arrest would not have been in error, right?

:doh
Yes I did. What do you not understand about miscommunication not being a lie?

enforcing the bogus rule against peaceful protesters, journalists and others during daylight hours.
Peaceful protestors?
iLOL :doh

Bogus rule?
:naughty
It is not a bogus rule. It is a rule used in specific circumstances as was misapplied.

And frankly, protestors should not get to stop and block any peaceful citizens going about their own business.

I'm not impressed with his explanation.
Don't care if you are or not. Your thoughts about it does not make it a lie as you claim.
