Boy Charged For Desecration Of Jesus Statue

Since he didn't do any harm to the statue (as far as I can tell), he shouldn't have been charged with anything. "Desecration of a venerated object" shouldn't even be a crime in the US. I hope he fights it on first amendment grounds.

I find it disgusting that this is a misdemeanor. It ought to be punished by imprisonment.

Ok I find this disgusting, however I'm not sure desecration is the right crime. Vandalism would be appropriate if damage was involved. Lude behavior charges may fit the crime, or maybe trespassing. I guess in need to know if the desecration is based on the fact that he was physically standing on the property (Statue), or if it was due to the act he was portraying.

If it is illegal desecration or blasphemy shouldn't everyone who reproduces or links to the picture be charged also? Including the OP.

You really want to take that line of reasoning?

I suppose the people who put up the statue didn't think about how people are regressing back to being 3 hairs shy of a baboon...

The chances a teenage boy will do exactly what this one did is pretty good. They had to know the statue was inviting this kind of behavior when they put it up. I mean, just look at it.

You have no idea how painful it is for me to agree with you on anything, but on this one - you are correct. Great point.

Well, I suppose some just like to think better of people...

Would you say the same if he had been naked (and thus committing indecent exposure)?

No, if he committed some actual crime then he should be charged accordingly.

So twerkers?

Depends.

If someone is standing on the sidewalk doing that all alone then probably not. If, however, they're grinding on a companion in public then sure.

We do not live in the middle where desecration is a crime.Nor do we like in Canada or Britain or some other eurotrash country where hate speech is a crime. The boy did not damage the statue,so he should not even be charged with anything unless he trespassed onto the property to take that photo.

For punishment, they will send him off to one of their sanctioned "facilities".

....It is openly acknowledged in the US media that homosexual rape is a wide spread characteristic of the US penal system, bordering upon a rite of passage one assumes for the vulnerable criminal. Given the passion that the USA exhibits for incarcerating in people long term in these often barely managed penitentiaries, it is little wonder that a certain body of them have a profound fear of homosexuality in general....

Strange world.

Well, I suppose some just like to think better of people...

Then you think too much of people. People have dirty minds and acting out this stuff is just going to happen.

LOL

If 'God Hates Fags' protestors are protected by the first amendment then this dude can pose with a statue of Christ all he wants.

Um... who cares? Why is this a crime?

He didn't do any harm to the statue. What difference does it make, and why are we wasting the court's time with this?

Whether you like it or not, Paleocon, blasphemy is perfectly legal in this country because Christians don't get to tell everyone else how to speak. Look up "blasphemy challenge." You know how many people got arrested for that? None. Public blasphemy is something you'll just have to live with, if you like living in a free country.

But I don't suspect you actually want to live in a free country at all. You want to live in a theocracy. There are plenty of those... in the third world. You could always relocate.

and I don't believe that there should be criminal charges, but maybe this ordeal will make the ape think before throwing his feces...

now if he had thrown feces on the statue that would be a crime

Community service and a small fine at most. He posed for photos, he didn't vandalize it or do property damage. In fact, since there was no real damage, I don't really think it should have been much of a crime...maybe trespassing if it was on private property.

The picture was hilarious.

That depends on how you want to define it.

Frankly, that'd be up to the judge and jury more than anyone else at this point.
I'd say so. A simulated sex act in public would certainly fall into the category of "indecent".

But he was fully clothed.
Accoring to Pensylvania state law: "A person commits indecent exposure if that person exposes his or her genitals in any public place or
in any place where there are present other persons under
circumstances in which he or she knows or should know that this
conduct is likely to offend, affront or alarm." Indecent exposure - 18 Pa. Cons. Stat. § 3127 - Pennsylvania Attorney Resources - Pennsylvania Laws

WTF??? Desecration??? When did that become a law here in the US? A Christian version of Sharia??? Seriously?

Well I guess "terrorists" come in all religions. Hahah

But yeah, seems like a pretty religious law to me. No property damage, no real crime, but because it was a jesus statue, now government force is involved. What if it were a statue of Smokey the Bear? Would you still get in trouble with the government?

I'm concerned with open and public blasphemy.

I'm not sure why you're babbling about sharia, but yes, there is a little bit of sanity left in America.

Be as concerned with "public blasphemy" as you want, but your god has nothing to do with the rules of man. No property damage, no vandalism, no crime. Just say NO to theocracy.
