Progress Being Made As Ferguson Police Officers Are Now Wearing Body Cameras

Just curious, do you believe there was no accountability in Ferguson
None? No there was some. Much? Not really. Seems like they were free to arrest the press (attack on free press), arrest peaceful protesters (attack on the right to assemble), and all around free to handle the protests literally like they were in Fallujah. Was there accountability? Yes, some, just so happens one of these cases when the "officer go **** yourself" was caught on camera and resigned.

So that's where I'm confused, TSD. All of the things you mention were caught on camera - and they were all, if we're being realistic, out of the norm of their daily routines, yes? So then why the cameras now?

Want to post a link where I said anything remotely close to that, or just go ahead and admit you're lying?

True.. True.. Got carried away. You are right, I apologize.

Well if you look at the videos of them doing what they did, often times no badges, and panic insured. The close up video of the cop only so happened because it was a direct face shot.

Thank you, my friend! :)

Dont care. You know how much lawsuits, and situations like Ferguson "cost the tax payers"?

The Obama White House hasn't released on how many millions of dollars it cost the taxpayers to send three White House staff members to a street thugs funeral.

Not to forget Attorney General Eric Holders trip to Ferguson. But Holder said he was there not as the Attorney General but as a black man. If true, why did the taxpayers end up footing the bill ?

Ahhhhh I see it now.....

Ahhhhh I see it even more.

Why stop with cops? Ordinary people both commit and are victimized by crime all the time. If everyone wore a camera that would make investigating crime a whole lot easier. Just imagine how easy it would be for that bigot that claims to have been robbed by a black guy to get called on the carpet when the video shows that it was really a white guy. Hell, we could just mandate that all collected video be collected by the NSA and processed through a threat analysis program and we could stop crime before it even [maybe] happened!

In fact it is happening. As I prepare a piece on this city's shift in handling the mentally ill I come across an interesting statistic. There has been a 32% increase in the solve rate of "difficult charges", one's word against another etc., through the use of miniature and phone cameras. It is deemed more effective than stationary survielence cameras.

It'll also make people think twice before getting stupid with a copp, because it's no longer, "his word against mine".

Since when is the word of common people taken over that of a cop?

I believe all police departments should have to wear body cameras, it not only brings more accountability to the department, but can be a protection against police brutality. This department definitely needs to wear cameras, hell all departments should. Only bad cops should be worried about body cameras. [/FONT]
1. I agree that all police officers should have to wear camera.

2. As body cams become more pervasive, laws dealing with the privacy issues around them - including the privacy of the citizens they encounter - need to be created and tightened.

3. I'm hesitant to agree with the statement "only bad cops should be worried" because it's the same argument people use when arguing that teacher tenure should be eliminated or that a teacher's job should be tied to test scores. The assumption being made about teachers is that only bad teachers would be fired if tenure was eliminated and if teaching jobs were tied to test cares. However, when you analyze that theory for a second more, you realize that's not the case. My guess is that 'good cops' have legitimate reasons to protest body cams as well for reasons that may not be obvious to the ordinary person.

It isn't going to change a thing. People who hate cops are just going to claim that the video was doctored. We'll still have the same situation we have now but with more video to bicker over.

Departments that have implemented body cameras have yielded a reduction in complaints.
