A Grand Ayatollah in Iran has determined that access to high-speed and 3G Internet is “against Sharia” and “against moral standards.” In answer to a question published on his website, Grand Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi, one of the country’s highest clerical authorities, issued a fatwa, stating “All third generation [3G] and high-speed internet services, prior to realization of the required conditions for the National Information Network [Iran’s government-controlled and censored Internet which is under development], is against Sharia [and] against moral and human standards.”

Not sure what to say, other than just laugh at that guy.

Considering the evil that lurks within....I could see where Sharia would be at odds.

We've somehow missed the evil inherent in our phones. I was just gonna behead mine, but the damn thing doesn't have one. Evil. I stabbed it with an ice pick instead.

Obviously you lack a flip phone

I have one from the stone age, but it's not 3 G. I think it's like .5 B. I'll go ahead and cut it's head off in solidarity with the Imam.

I am sure 72 blackberries will await it in paradise.

Well it is one way of saying to the population.. no you cant have it because we cant afford it.. just make it morally wrong and against religion. Not the first time this has been done.... prohibition comes to mind.

Greetings, humbolt. :2wave:

I guess when you get to choose what to issue a Fatwa against, the phone used to access the Internet is as good as anything else. The evil in people learning via the Internet how other people live in the 21st Century is just too much to tolerate, and it just causes unrest! I'd bury my laptop if it would help, but it has these loud alarms that it uses to protect itself, and they're annoying enough to send neighbors to investigate! It just wouldn't do to have them wonder what's going on next door!

We had a gorgeous day yesterday to celebrate Labor Day, so following the general outline for NE Ohio, it's pouring here today! We mustn't be allowed to get spoiled by expecting it to be warm and sunny nearly every day in the Summer, you see!

3G phones are relatively innocuous compared to a laptop. My laptop has asked me for protection from a Fatwa, should one be issued. I have denied the request because, as we are learning, Iran is a moderate murderer and practitioner of Salafism - not like ISIS. Makes all the difference. A moderate beheading is far more preferable than the extremist kind.

It's hotter than hell down here now. Summer has arrived in September.
