Westboro Baptist Church planning to protest Robin Williams' funeral[W:14]

Re: Westboro Baptist Church planning to protest Robin Williams' funeral

They have the right to say anything they want. We all do.

Well, almost. Defamation, false advertising, speech that creates a clear and present danger of violent action, and obscenity, including child pornography, are all forms of speech that are not protected by the First Amendment.

I feel a lot like I did about the mosque that was to be built near the Twin Towers...

That's an interesting case. I doubt many people realize several Muslim Brotherhood front groups are behind that "Cordoba Project."
I know damn well there is some way to stop a thing like that without violating anyone's constitutional rights--just takes some creative thinking.

Re: Westboro Baptist Church planning to protest Robin Williams' funeral

It is a sad thing that strict adherence to the first amendment can allow disturbing someones funeral. In my country this would not be allowed and all of these idiots would be arrested every time they set up their hate camp. Freedom of speech is allowed, disturbing the peace of a funeral is not.

The problem is that what this really is is "freedom of speech, as long as the government says it's ok."

See underlined.

That's a rare gift we see very little of these days, IMHO. ;)

Geezus. WTF?

Someone needs to smack those assholes.

Or find where they're staying and park their cars in like that biker club did.

Best troll ever!

Re: Westboro Baptist Church planning to protest Robin Williams' funeral

Multiple conservatives have dumped their Ferguson garbage in this thread trying to falsely equate Westboro with Ferguson protectors. I know--it is pretty sick but that's how they roll .

In the 11 posts leading up to this one, it was mentioned once. And then in a manner to suggest it would put an end to Westboro.

So, it seems to me it's you "dumping their garbage", no-one else.

They're a cult that uses these tactics to increase their public profile; they make their money off of the lawsuits they file against people who interfere with them, and the hatred helps maintain their grip over the dupes that follow them.

They're protesting the funeral because they crave attention

That's a whole lot of cravin'! Is it like...pregnant woman 2:30am craving or like a fat woman loves cake craving? :lamo (j/k)

Either way, this group has to be desperate for attention. They're jumping through some series hoops to get recognized. In any case, I think they missed their opportunity. It went up in the wind.

Same thing with outlining a certain distance funeral. In the past, they stood close enough that the mourners could hear the despicable slandering of the deceased. Is that free speech? Supreme Court (government) said no, they have to stand farther away.

I'm rather amazed they haven't incited a riot. This is as low as anyone could stoop. People here saying they're smart, they sue those who get in their way, no, they are damn lucky to not have been done in. I remember hearing of a group of vets who were caught at the last minute with automatic weapons.
