While that is true, the outrage is about potential excessive use of force by the police department (perhaps what amounts to the execution of a unarmed black man by a white police officer.... not saying that IS what happened, but that is the concern of the black community of Ferguson).
When the police department shows up dressed like the SS, essentially doubling down on the allegation of excessive use of force, its likely to provoke the outrage of some of the more militant of the protestors. Its as if the police department said "...excessive force? I'll show you excessive force..."

Whoever was in command of policing of the protest is an idiot. The optics of this are so obviously insensitive to the situation at hand..... no question some of the protestors were over the top; but so were the police. Good policing is about de-escalating a situation; not aggravating it.
I appreciate the fact that the rioters compromise the integrity of the underlying protest by distracting the less savvy from the issue; but don't a member of the less savvy.
