Re: Man Allegedly Shot Dead By Police In Wal-Mart For Carrying BB Gun He Picked Up In

Read the title of the thread.
Read the linked article.
Read.

A Wal-Mart is not a "gun store".

Some jackass pointing a tactical rifle at people inside a WAL-MART is surely justification for somebody to call 911.

And it's surely something for the police to take seriously.

And if the dude with the tactical rifle does not immediately respond to police commands, and subsequently points the tactical rifle towards the police for any reason at all..........

Oh never mind....if YOU can't even bother to READ what's been posted in the OP, you don't deserve anyone's time for an explanation.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty certain that I've read in the news that many Wal-Mart stores are gun shops. If I'm not mistaken, there have been protests/petitions to have Wal-Mart not sell guns in stores that are frequented by kids and families.

Wal-marts do sell guns. That does not make them a "gun store".

Wal-mart also sells groceries. Are they a grocery store?
Wal-mart sells clothes. Are they a clothier?

According to the article the guy was pointing a gun at people inside the store and then refused to comply with police orders.

To call the police officer a "murderer" and a "pig" is so far out-of-bounds ignorant it's just not even comprehensible.

I wasn't calling anyone a murderer or pig, nor was I blaming police for their actions. I was simply pointing out the error of your comment that Wal-Mart isn't a gun store. You graciously could have accepted that correction or doubled down on ignorance. I see you chose the latter.

A WAL-MART is not a gun store.

Your pedantic arrogance is noted.

Re: Man Allegedly Shot Dead By Police In Wal-Mart For Carrying BB Gun He Picked Up In

A Wal-Mart is not a "gun store".
So then a store that sells guns is not a gun store? :liar:thinking:lamo

What do gun stores sell?

Re: Man Allegedly Shot Dead By Police In Wal-Mart For Carrying BB Gun He Picked Up In

It may have already been mentioned, but why was this gun not contained in some form of packaging while on display and for sale in the store? If it had been shrink wrapped and boxed it wouldn't look like a real gun, it would look like a toy in a box. Now, if it had been so packaged and the guy took it out of the packaging, that's another story.

I believe there is potential, particularly in America, for a lawsuit against both the manufacturer of the toy and Wal-Mart. It is irresponsible, in my view, to have a replica gun for sale in such a form that it can be paraded around a large store as if it's real. Especially, considering the number of crazed idiots who are actually doing such things with the real deal.

Police are not to blame at all under the circumstances.

First, the OP article is from Thinkprogress, not exactly an unbiased source in second amendment situations. Other news sources describe the situation differently.

Most of the information in the TP article seems to have come from the victims girl friend, who is claiming a racial issue.

Third, the weapon is not a toy, and is not carried in the toy section. By law, toy weapons must carry the red tip. This one does not. Other news sources claim that the weapon is stocked in the sporting goods section and that an empty box was found on the shelf days later. (not sure I buy that detail, since it seems the LEO would have removed it, at least the store would)

Third, apparently the victim had removed the weapon from the sporting goods section, from its box, and was carrying it around the store, either in the pet department or the toy section.

"On Wednesday, 22-year-old John Crawford was shot dead inside a Wal-Mart by police in Beavercreek, Ohio, after a shopper called 911 to report someone inside with a gun. Now, Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine says the gun Crawford was carrying was a BB gun known as a variable pump air rifle — a target-shooting and small game-hunting gun made to look like a real, more deadly weapon.

The MK-177 Crosman BB/Pellet Rifle gun is stocked in the shelves at Wal-Mart, and relatives of Crawford’s say he wasn’t carrying any gun when he entered Wal-Mart. He reportedly picked up the gun in the toy section of the store. The store says it has since been told to remove the gun from its shelves.

Some witnesses say Crawford was pointing the gun at customers and children, and did not comply with police commands. But Crawford’s family has asked state civil rights groups including the NAACP to look into the shooting. Crawford was black." - Source - Screen shot

This is a tragic event but I do not blame the police in this.

First off, the race of the suspect is completely irrelevant. If the news story is correct, he was pointing a toy gun, made to look realistic, at people in the store. The police acted prudently.

`

I thought all toy guns were orange. If indeed he picked up the gun in the store, why wasn't it clearly marked?? If it WASN'T clearly marked orange, then we need a law that requires them to be marked that way. What a senseless tragedy.

Then somebody who wants to do really bad things need only paint the tip of their barrel orange.
Of slip an orange plastic piece from a toy over the real thing.

Also, a pellet gun, or bb gun is not a "toy".
Some of them can be quite dangerous.

Re: Man Allegedly Shot Dead By Police In Wal-Mart For Carrying BB Gun He Picked Up In

I agree. I just wish cops would learn to shoot to stop, not to kill, by whatever means possible. Train to shoot at the arm, minimizing the threat while avoiding any loss of life.

If only life were the movies and **** like that worked...

Re: Man Allegedly Shot Dead By Police In Wal-Mart For Carrying BB Gun He Picked Up In

Trained professionals should be capable of taking out a suspect without killing him/her. We are not talking about the average trigger happy Joe.

In the movies, this is how it is... sadly we don't live in the movies.

It wasn't marked as a toy because it is not considered a toy. We do have those laws in effect.

After reading several of what I consider the least biased of the news stories, my best guess is that a dumb assed kid decided that it would be cute to take a weapon from the Walmart sporting goods section, remove it from its packaging, and walk around the store brandishing.

Stupid sometimes has a price.

Re: Man Allegedly Shot Dead By Police In Wal-Mart For Carrying BB Gun He Picked Up In

That's ridiculous. It is not illegal to hold a pellet gun.

Both the pig who shot him and the idiot who called 911 should be prosecuted.

He wasn't shot for holding a pellet gun. He was shot for threatening innocent civilians and ignoring the police officer.

I know you're just baiting, but the police officer did the right thing, and you're the type that would be pissing their pants begging the cops to save you had someone been pointing a rifle at you in a store.

Re: Man Allegedly Shot Dead By Police In Wal-Mart For Carrying BB Gun He Picked Up In

Anyone catch this part?
A 37-year-old customer, Angela Williams of Fairborn, died after suffering a medical problem during evacuation of the store, authorities said. It could be weeks before final autopsy results are known, they said.

What innocent civilians did he threaten? Can you name a single one of them?

Got a reliable source to back up your contention that he was threatening people? Who told you he was threatening people?

You expect anyone to take that risk. I'm sorry, if someone is pointing a gun at me and I have a gun pointed at them, I am going to kill them before they kill me.

Ya know, you're right. He was just this guy, that picked up a BB gun and someone called 911, and the cop that showed up, he just saw gun and fired. You got ample proof of this I'm sure. Right? Got some eyewitness testimony?

Got some video?

Got anything other than an absurd hard on for hate towards police officers?

Thanks, that's excellent additional information and, at least for me, removes any doubt that either the store or the manufacturer are responsible for the death of this young man.

I'd like to see a lawyer for the dead woman get into this one and see if the 22yr old or his family have any resources to compensate the woman's family's loss.

Indeed, but it will STILL be used as a pretext for control by the left. This adult is a darwin candidate, and worse-he took someone with him.

Given this day and age I'm not surprised by this. Crawford was apparently not a smart person.
