House GOP votes to gut IRS budget

So only the GOP voted by voice?

Who controls The House. Which party brought it to the floor. I would think the GOPers would love to put their name on legislation like this, esp since 2014 is a election year....

Oh wait 2014 is an election year

Like I said "phony scandal."

They're not cutting specific portions of the IRS budget. The IRS can indeed use whatever portion of their budget they need to enforce tax law.

Same thing since a cut is a cut is a cut and they have less to work with.

Yes, 50% smaller than the federal government thinks it needs to be.

So the trick then is for them to ask for twice as much as they actually think they need in order to play that game.

Looks like the Senate is in jeopardy.

They need to literally fix the government's budget, or the IRS will just be understaffed and bigger assholes looking to tax and penalize everybody.

No, the regime needs to do it's job and launch a real investigation into the renegades that are infesting the IRS.

So the forces of the right cut the ability of the government to collect tax revenues and then they will complain about the governments budget at the same time after undertaking this very action which will contribute to the problem.

Got it loud and clear.
Some things are very easy. When the Federal government is restricted to doing only those things enumerated in the Constitution or those things that logically from from them then the government will not need to consume one-quarter of the people's wealth each year. Tax rates can be capped at a reasonable amount (10% or perhaps 12%) and everyone can pay.

Doesn't matter. They can prioritize, so it doesn't mean they'd collect one dime less. They don't have to apply the cuts to collections.

Doesn't change anything about the voice vote. Why are House Republicans not wanting to go on record cutting the IRS budget....

voice votes are not about hiding, they are about taking votes on legislation quickly and moving on.

Democrat can call for a recorded vote at any time.... they have plenty of votes to be successful ( 1/5 of the house is needed to call for a recorded vote)

why didn't they call for a recorded vote?

the GOP is on record as easily passing the voice votes... if one is so inclined, they can punish the GOP for picking on the IRS by voting for someone else... but i don't think it's a political liability to pick on the IRS.... hell, nobody but far lefties has any love for the IRS,

I will give you that Serrano should have pushed for a recorded vote. But at the same time a recorded vote makes for a record, and that might not be so nice being in campaign season... I would think House GOPers would love a defund the IRS bill in their voting record. Come on we are talking about the same folks who shut down the government and were proud of it.

Imagine if Democrats were voting to cut border patrol enforcement.

I don't know.

i fail to see how gutting the budget of the governments tax collection agency is going to solve the countries money troubles

It would, at the very least, force them to operate more efficiently, which every government agency out there needs to do. Maybe we ought to gut the entire operating budget of the U.S. government by 15% and see how much money we save.

you just hate paying taxes.

besides corruptions needs to be eliminated by working within the system.

As we've already seen, the only people who can change the system are the people who are within the system and benefit from keeping things the way they are. That's how we, the American people, have allowed many things to become. Only lawyers can change the law, particularly how the legal profession operates. Only politicians can change the political system. They have no impetus to reduce the amount of power and money that they control and Americans keep voting them back into office.

Yes, the labor participation rate is at a 35 year low, but the actual number (real number, not percentage) of Americans working is at an all time high, is it not? As a result, in real numbers, more Americans are working and paying taxes.

But that's only because there are more Americans today than ever before. That means there are more Americans requiring social services that require more money to fund. The percentage is more important than the actual numbers.

You gut their budget, then stuff like this will continued unchecked.

That's going to go on whether their budget is gutted or not. That's what the White House wants, to give money to people who do not deserve it. It's the liberal way.

So you are going to vote third party then right? Because the Dems AND the GOP have become too corrupt.

What makes you think that third parties are any less corrupt?

Flat tax. We do not need the IRS. Get rid of them.

You're still going to need someone to collect the money, even if you do eliminate the IRS, you'll have to replace it with something else.

Each state can collect the taxes it owes to the feds. Then the states can attach strings to the money it allocates to the feds.

Which doesn't fix the problem, it just makes 50 little IRS clones. I'll never understand people who think the states are any more honest than the feds.
