House GOP votes to gut IRS budget

You close deficits by the combination of raising revenue and lowering expenses. If your revenue shortfall is largely function of your inability to collect what is due you, you most certainly attack that first. Sorry, this is business finance 101.

Deficit spending is the amount by which spending exceeds revenue over a particular period of time, also called simply deficit, or budget deficit; the opposite of budget surplus.

I'm sorry my friend; there's only one way to stop deficit spending.

Dude, have you ever tried to call the IRS? LOL!!!

Yeah, I do taxes for a living. I call them all the time. Not interested in waiting longer to get a live person, for my letters to be addressed, etc. That was my point. It will hurt everyone but who you want to hurt. Do you think cutting the budget makes that wait time shorter, with 1,000 fewer employees?

You missed half my quote. How does laying off people that had nothing to do with that help anything? It does nothing to address the problem, and will hurt thousands of employees that do NOT examine 501 applications, and inconvenience millions of Americans.

Folks will start talking about anything and everything they know about. As long as everyone feels untouchable, no one's going to say anything.

Service at the IRS can't suck any more than it already does. Besides, the enforcement budget is being cut. If service suffers because of that, then something is seriously wrong at the IRS...as if we there already isn't.

So 10,000 fewer employees will help service. GOPer thinking at its finest. Starve it of funds then whine when there is a long wait because thousands of people to answer the phones and deal with your notice got laid off.

Sorry but it doesn't matter, I would take it many steps further.

So, you're ok with a massively corrupt government adminitration retaining it's tyrannical power?

How are you going to feel when an outlaw agent comes after your pocketbook? Then what? Gona complain to the government about it? Maybe you could write a letter to the prez; I'm sure he'll get on that mui pronto.

None of your rhetoric even addresses the fact it WON'T STOP CORRUPTION. The only thing it will do is hurt the little workers while bogging down legitimate buisness which will open up for even MORE corruption. I'm ALL for stopping corruption, but this isn't going to do it. THAT'S why I am against it.

Just because I don't agree with ONE plan doesn't mean I am FOR corruption.

When “the system” itself becomes as corrupt as it very obviously, has, it cannot be fixed by working within it.

So you are going to vote third party then right? Because the Dems AND the GOP have become too corrupt.

Yes because THAT'S going to stop corruption. By gutting an organization that will just lay off the little people and not the cause of the corruption.

It's the "little" people that have the inside knowledge to bring this all out. IT Admins are little people too.

OK, arrest and charge some IT guy. Or do you just fire 10-20% of the workforce, hope one of them is an IT guy with all the inside information and that after he gets fired, he'll come forward to Issa and spill the beans to get his job back? Why, that's BRILLIANT!

How on Earth did you glean that from my post?

Tim-

I'm not sure what your point was. IT people are 'little' people, and..... what? How does that observation relate to a proposal to cut the IRS budget, and lay off a few thousand workers?

Hurt them all. They are un-American. Do the same for the EPA. Cut their budget by 90% and follow their own advice about grabbing the first five you see in your town and crucify them. Nail them to a nearby tree. It will make the rest easier to manage.

Flat tax. We do not need the IRS. Get rid of them.

how quickly people forget the money the IRS wastes on such things as "star trek" videos... dance lessons..spending millions on software they never used... spending million on employee conferences

but anyways... spending cuts won't fly.... Harry Reid will kill it or Obama will....
my money is on Harry Reid... he won't allow anything form the House to even come to a vote, let alone pass it on to Obama to veto.

Do not fund anything the Left desires.
Do not allow any further continuing resolutions.
Close down this illegal government.

Uh, no. Wrong answer!

Flat tax is still a tax, still have to determine income, still have deductions, credits, etc. A flat tax just eliminates lots of deductions little people take, and makes their returns slightly easier, and maybe instead of 5 rates there is one or two, but simple returns are already checked by computer and a computer can check 12 or 40 lines as easily as 3. Tax returns for businesses or the wealthy don't get much easier, if at all. And no matter what kind of tax, people will cheat, not file, etc. and you'll need the IRS to catch them, and collect their taxes, send a few of them to jail, etc.

I suspected the right wing had decided that if a "leftist" was for something, they'd be against it just because, but haven't ever actually seen anyone ADMIT being that irrational.

And democrats are HOPING the GOP shuts down government, right before the election. So I'm with you - shut it down, shut off the Medicare checks, shut off the SS checks, shut down the airports, and the courts, and the parks, etc. Obviously cut off checks to the soldiers, park the planes and ships in hangars and docks. Shut the whole thing down!

Great. Abolish the IRS. Have the states collect all of the taxes and send in whatever is appropriate.

How much did you earn?
Multiply by 10%.
Send it in.

Screw all of the hangers on who make a living from a complex tax law.

I am for it. Shut it all down.
Medicare is paid for by payroll deductions.
Social security is paid for by payroll deductions.
Privatize airports.
The federal courts are not our friends. Shut them down.

Yeah, leave it to the states. IRS does about 90% of the state's work for them, so shouldn't be a problem. And you're right - 'what did you earn' is a simple thing to determine. All that work we accountants do is to figure out how to multiply that amount you 'earned' by a complex formula, such as, (Earnings X .35) = Tax due. Took me 4 years and passing the CPA to learn how to use more than one rate. VERY difficult stuff.

Not much to say to that but LMAO.
