Oh please. We all followed it just fine. It's just that it was such ****ing pathetic commentary. Assassinating foreign diplomats was just fine pre 1975 because the gawd damn American government didn't recognise the crime "officially" until after 1975. The US government doesn't recognise ITS brand of war crimes as criminal either, or the authority of the ICC, until its time to take another individual, group or country before it.

That's such a partisan comment. Don't you think your conservative lean gives you superior vision for such things when its in the liberal democrat camp. I know for damn sure that the partisan liberal democrats bias gives them superior vision to spot republican hypocrisy and GOP worship.

1. The US isn't a party to the International Criminal Court, so what it thinks or doesn't think about it's authority or procedures is irrelevant both to the ICC and the US. But if another country is party, it's perfectly reasonable for the US to point out the hypocrisy of that country not subjecting their leadership to the ICC.

2. The comment made was in reference to the Kennedy administration's attempts to assassinate Fidel Castro, so the reference to the legality of the act was relevant and it was, indeed, declared by legislation through the US Congress to be illegal in the mid-seventies. Until then, it was presumed to be legal in the US. Also presumably, if the US assassinated a foreign leader, it's likely that the US President who gave the order wouldn't be visiting that foreign country for the rest of his life - because, as you noted, US law doesn't governed other countries.

I believe we are referring to the U.S. government assassinating another foreign head of state. It became illegal during the 1970's.

Wouldn't it have it been cheaper in blood and money if the CIA could have assassinated Saddam Hussein ?

Back in 1963 JFK signed off on the CIA backed military coups of regime change in South Vietnam. Unfortunately it ended up that President Diem was assassinated.
The rest is history, we owned Vietnam after that. Vietnam became our responsibility, it became our problem because the world watched. If JFK/LBJ backed off, SEATO would collapse and then NATO would collapse.

It may be a partisan comment, but that doesn't make it untrue. The way the left treats its political leaders is far more like celebrity worship than anything the right does.

I'm not the one that noted the latter but of course its true. I think there's several countries that Bush shies away from, too! The classification or legality of assassination is a technicality that allowed the US government to commit crimes. Doesn't make it right. And probably hasn't stopped if deemed necessary post 1975. I really don't need your lesson on this CJ having a good understanding of it previously. Same for the ICC. You said nothing different of it than I. Not recognising the authority of the ICC/not a party to. Not a party to/not recognising the authority of. **** dude, our government would be constantly in front of it.

Well, not if it's true, it is true, and since I'd referenced assassination plots by the US government several posts in a row prior to that one, I mistakenly assumed my Leftist brothers and sisters were in the know like Apacherat, Canadian John and myself. I guess I should have known better.

as an aside, wishing harm, even death, to come to the President is a time honored American tradition.

as another aside, what this woman said doesn't constitute a viable threat to the president... she might be investigated ( incredibly doubtful), but that's as far as it goes.
