That is incorrect...every person placed on an airflight by HHS have been screened, processed, and OKed by HHS. They have documentation. HHS's

I would suppose it would be correct to say we took in most immigrants but there were hundreds of thousands who were rejected entrance and were put back on the boat.

Here's one rarely brought up.
How many legal immigrants couldn't make it in America and gave up and returned to their former homeland ?

Since there was no such thing as entitlements and welfare in America before WW ll, if you failed you were on your own. The choice was either returning home or resorting to crime.

Since there were no records kept on how many immigrants returned to their original country of birth only estimates can be made by comparing census records and ships passenger manifest. It's estimated a few million did return to Europe.

Back before 1965 an immigrant had to take personal responsibility for themselves. Immigration laws from 1945 to 1965 were strictly enforced and an immigrant couldn't receive any form of welfare be it federal, state or county for the first ten years being in America. Today 50% of all legal immigrants and illegal aliens are receiving at least one form of government assistance. Yes it's a violation of the law but nobody is enforcing our immigration laws.

Today when an immigrant can't make it in America there's no reason to return home, the government (taxpayers) will step in and take care of them.

During the 1800's and to the middle 1900's there were private immigrant societies set up to help immigrants who were having a hard time and also the churches but the government wasn't in the welfare business back then because the Constitution doesn't mention it.

Bank of America was originally named the Bank of Italy. A bank established for Italian immigrants.

Quotas came relatively late in the "immigration era." They were well after the great waves which define our experience.

The only reason they were allowed in is because they had to show they brought a skill or a trade with them or they weren't allowed in.

Requirements for Immigrants at Ellis Island

If they were deemed likely to end up needing to receive welfare or otherwise seemed unable to provide for themselves, they would be refused admission. Finally, if they were assessed as likely to become an illegal contract laborer, they would be refused entry.

At most, the candidate for entry faced five hours of requirements. Some faced almost nothing. That was my point. The burden on immigrants of a hundred years ago were far less stringent than those placed on candidates today. Those of us who are here now because of the early immigration can't claim moral superiority. We were just luckier.

wow way not to read the article. but what i expect from liberals anymore.

no it isn't. they had money and resources they were not going to live on the government.

these people have none of that. these people wouldn't have even been able to get a ticket in the steerage department. if they had been lucky enough then they would have had to pass rigorous testing as i showed you above.

The fact that TSA is violating it's own rules is disconcerning.

you are not even allowed to get a ticket without some form of identification let alone make it through the security check point without photo id or a passport.

joe there is a system in place for people to come to this country legally because that's what the public wanted.

your posts suggest you don't care how people come to this country and it appears to be politically motivated.

That's not so. We have requirements today because they've been shown to be necessary. I accept that. My problem is with those who claim moral superiority. They seem to be saying we should shut the door to the poor, brown women and children who are seeking refuge.

We're saying we should shut the door to everyone that tries to enter the country illegally. Doesn't matter if they're rich, poor, young, old, educated, dumb as a box of rocks, white, brown, black, yellow, red, purple, green, blue, peaceful, violent, running from peace, running from violence, overweight, anorexic, normal. We want that door closed to ALL illegal aliens.

We are not the Worlds Peace Corp, Police, father, mother, grandmother, grandfather. We have our own problems that we need to solve before even attempting to help others. Nobility is good and all, but too much nobility and you're going to end up just as poor and in needing of help as those that you are trying to help. As my folks say to me, you must first be able to help yourself before you can help others.

Well I agree we should look for more than Breitbart's report, it is done in typical low journalism- the part attempting to link this with Yemeni terrorists coming into the country is typical loon stuff.

Where you hit the loony trail is ASS-uming these people are exempt from nut checks or granny cavity searches (what granny do you know who was spread and searched???) :confused:

Over the top rhetoric like that could land you a job at Breitbart if you don't already work there.... :peace

The illegal immigration must stop. There are other reasons, but one urgent one is the introduction of diseases for which there are few drugs and the reintroduction of diseases once eradicated in this country such as tuberculosis.

Fair enough. If you want to stick to the liberal game plan of screaming racism, so be it.

With that plan in mind, in my opinion, the true racists in the crisis are liberals, who are using race as a political tool. You're screwing legal citizens who are in great need for jobs and opportunity in favor of a manufactured crisis created to bring about an election year gain.

Liberals in this regard are presenting a new level of low, and the racist handle attached to them is being carved into the base of Lady Liberty.
