And Bush was in Arizona eating cake while Katrina was blowing up. There's been little good leadership in America.
Sure. And then he stayed on the ground to help organize the effort, coordinate the national response with the governor and mayor, hand out water bottles, etc. You can certainly say that he wasn't as effective as he could have been, but at least he was on it. He didn't take a look at a humanitarian crises and then decide he would rather go shoot pool and drink beer. He didn't go to Louisiana and then instead of heading south to New Orleans go to a fundraiser instead.
 i find that interesting, given that we have not even discussed that topic before. The southern border can be secured, certainly better than this. To an impossible absolute, sure, no. Not even North Korea has that. But far, far better than what we are doing now.
However, what we are talking about HERE is the current humanitarian crises involving these tens of thousands of kids here in part at least because of this presidents' policies.
Sure. Here is the problem with trying to apply that formula in Obama's defense - the man is legitimately not there, not interested in going there, and has no interest whatsoever in pushing politically for any kind of an actual solution other than "give us more money so we can settle these kids in the US and perpetuate the problem". Calling Bush AWOL in the aftermath of Katrina required leaning on some kind of metaphysical "AWOL" status given that he was actually physically there working. Obama is actually AWOL.
Obama is sending a message to all terrorists, "If any of you that are not convinced you can sneak in to America and kill us, just watch my lack of concern with our borders". Watch what percent of the money appropriated for border security actually goes to "security". Be aware alot of the money goes to housing, feeding and administrative work to get the people homes and shelters, not actual security to prevent intruders.
Some people, will believe anything they are told as long as they want to know what they are told.
I agree that this presidents policies are exacerbating a long running problem. A problem no prior president, party or congress has had the will to deal with. Namely because, the secured borders that you and I want, haven't, and won't materialize because big business isn't interested in secure borders, and unfortunately, both parties pander to big business!

The Deportation Lie | National Review OnlineBut figures recently unearthed by a federal lawsuit in Texas cast serious doubt on the administration’s deportation claims. The number of deportations appears to have declined significantly during the president’s term in office.
Jessica Vaughan, director of policy studies for the Center for Immigration Studies, has analyzed a set of largely unpublished official statistics on immigration-enforcement activity over the past five years. Earlier this month, Vaughan testified in court on behalf of a group of U.S. Immigration and Customs (ICE) agents who are suing the administration over its use of “prosecutorial discretion” in dictating how immigration law is enforced — or not enforced. The agents are seeking an injunction against a series of policy directives from ICE and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that were designed to regulate the extent to which ICE officers could initiate deportation proceedings for illegal immigrants in their custody.
In her testimony on April 8, Vaughan noted that, contrary to the administration’s claims, the number of illegal-immigrant removals has dropped 40 percent since June 2011, when ICE director John Morton issued the first of several directives outlining significant changes to the agency’s enforcement policies. “There has been a significant decline in enforcement activity as measured by the number of removals,” Vaughan says.
High deportation figures are misleading - Los Angeles Times"If you are a run-of-the-mill immigrant here illegally, your odds of getting deported are close to zero — it's just highly unlikely to happen," John Sandweg, until recently the acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said in an interview.
Even when immigration officials want to deport someone who already has settled in the country, doing so is "virtually impossible" because of a lengthy backlog in the immigration courts, Sandweg said. Once people who have no prior removals or convictions are placed in deportation proceedings, actually removing them from the country can take six years or more in some jurisdictions, Sandweg said.

Considering that this is being used to weaken the presidents border policy position, it hardly seems like a photo opportunity for him.
In general the photo ops are supposed to bolster the language coming from the politician. If the story is that Obama is working hard to create new jobs then the photo op is at a steel mill or lumber yard looking busy talking to people in the trenches. It's politics 101. Obama says he is working hard on the border issue and his photo ops show him play pool. The reason his support is tanking is that his messaging is that he really don't give a **** about any of the crisis situations he finds himself in.
How can I when you believe numbers from an administration bereft of honest information?

He is still deporting more than any of the last few presidents....

Secure borders require very little deportation. And no president has ever moved to secure the border.

What's up Rick Perry's but??
This is all fine and good but for the fact that the President issued an Executive Order granting amnesty to any illegal "child" (up to age 30) who has been in the country for a given number of years. Since the amount of time an undocumented child has been in the country can't really be policed the folks south of the border have chosen to bum-rush the border and get all these kids amnesty.
It was a monumentally stupid choice on Obama's part as the executive order had nothing in it to deal with the flood illegals it created.
It's like if Obama passed an executive order that he was going to pardon anyone who shoplifted from Walmart and then plead ignorance when Walmarts turn into a mob scene.
