He's gay???? Omg nooooo waaaay this is big time news!! Whoa!!! Did the newly homosexual friendly POTUS call and tell him how proud he is of him and what courage he has?? Ticker tape parade??? How about his own line of I phones, called the I bone???? You know im hetero but if I can get this much fanfare and attention for being a butt pirate I just might flip??? Think he's a top or bottom guy??? This is the best news evvvvver!!!!!

Secret from who? Your idea of openly gay can easily be different from theirs. They could be out to everyone who matters in their lives, including others at the company, and just not want the entire planet to know, so they don't run around telling the media.

I can see the point if he wanted his private life private. But I still think it indicates a problem with our culture, that being "outed" as gay can be horrible.

Its called sarcasm, I personally think its nobodys business what you do in your private life this also applies to drug testing.

Yes of course, but it may be a problem limited to certain career paths, like sports, CEO, politician. Then again, it could be the individual, especially a career obsessed CEO, is being overly cautious. I'm skeptical they all really need to stay closeted.

My gay uncle married and had 3 kids and kept it secret for 20 years, some of that for valid reasons. It was back then the only way to have a family and coming out might've been unsafe. But also, he was willing to do anything to make as much income as possible and went along with corporate expectations, until finally coming out last year and moving to CA. Guess what, didn't affect his career at all.

I'm at business school now at a liberal campus and there's like 4 members in the business GSA. The people here are so concerned with image, fearing that the slightest hint of not being 'normal' will mean they lose millions, that it's as much a problem with their selfish outlook as culture.

Yeah, everyone has some trait that's off the beaten path, yet being outted can be life altering still in our culture. But still, going back all the way to the start of gay rights movement, we've seen that the only way it becomes easier is for those in corporate, sports, politics etc to come out.
