ISIS in Iraq seizes control of Saddam Hussein’s chemical weapons facility

re: ISIL seizes Saddam's chemical weapons plant

It was not part of an active program, if the US was concerned about it, it could have made claims about it rather then made up stories about yellow cake from Niger.

But in the lead up the stored and sealed yellow cake was not brought up as being one of the issues for the war

They weren't even looking for yellow cake - they just found it. They were looking for chemical weapons which I suppose the wrong people found NOW.

BTW the "weapons inspectors" were either sympathetic to Saddam or epic idiots.

re: ISIL seizes Saddam's chemical weapons plant

What the hell do you know about chemical weapons? furthermore you're assuming these "militants" are a bunch of idiots that don't know what they're doing.

Spoken like a true progressive, Ayers is a ****ing genius and these "militants" are morons.

You better believe they have individuals in their ranks that know how to handle that crap - if you don't then you're a adifohjasdfoijasdo;fjado;sfjasdfjo;asj.

 What? I just backed up my accusations with a source. I mean here are two sources with the Bush admin agreeing: White House Admits WMD Error - CBS News https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSN-Kku_rFE

So whats your deal?

Are you saying the US military is wrong about those weapons?

Because that's the part that you right-wingers don't seem to get. It's not liberals saying these aren't usable weapons. It's the frigging Pentagon.

U.S. Secretly Takes Yellowcake From Iraq - CBS News

Tuwaitha and an adjacent research facility were well known for decades as the centerpiece of Saddam's nuclear efforts.

Israeli warplanes bombed a reactor project at the site in 1981. Later, U.N. inspectors documented and safeguarded the yellowcake, which had been stored in aging drums and containers since before the 1991 Gulf War. There was no evidence of any yellowcake dating from after 1991, the official said.

U.S. and Iraqi forces have guarded the 23,000-acre (9,300-hectare) site - surrounded by huge sand berms - following a wave of looting after Saddam's fall that included villagers toting away yellowcake storage barrels for use as drinking water cisterns.

It was known about and guarded until being shipped to Canada.

I don't care about Bush...... I knew Saddam was a danger before the war and I knew he had chemical and biological weapons.

You're trying to play politics and I'm using my ****ing head here....

re: ISIL seizes Saddam's chemical weapons plant

Let's not forget Kim Jong Un! I recently saw a documentary involving people who survived escaping North Korea. One kid was born in a prison camp, and, when he was 11, he overheard his mother and older brother talk of escaping. He immediately ratted them out (he was so brainwashed) and not only were the all tortured for weeks, but he was forced to watch them get executed. I cannot image living with the guilt he must have.

Good point - the hermit kingdom is also nuts, though in a more traditional, terrifying, autocratic god-king dictatorship sort of way. I honestly have no idea how we are going to deal with those people when and if that government ever collapses.

re: ISIL seizes Saddam's chemical weapons plant

Do you honestly think that one warehouse containing weapons -- most likely donated to Iraq by the US to fight Iran -- was good enough reason to:

Nice straw man, but prior to your post that wonderfully beat up the old brainless scarecrow no one really was suggesting that....they were simply suggesting claims that there were no WMDs in Iraq was incorrect.

It's entirely possible to believe those claims to be incorrect and still think the action in Iraq was unjustified or ill advised.

re: ISIL seizes Saddam's chemical weapons plant

Yes. How do you think those guards got there?

And why were those guards needed AFTER the invasion not before.47

Why was the same amount of yellowcake before the invasion the same amount after?

It was known about and guarded until being shipped to Canada.

You're just taking bull**** from leftist sites like CBS who are now backtracking on their bull**** and posting it...

The US WAS NEVER LOOKING FOR CAKE - they wanted chemical or biological weapons, I don't think in a million years they figured they would find cake and that much.

Furthermore cake is USELESS generally unless you want to make a bomb.

Either way now your whole "Bush lied" **** goes out the window as it did in 2007/08 (I believe) when they found the cake....

Iraq doesn't need that much cake for anything BUT to create a nuclear weapon -- Yellow cake is a byproduct that is basically useless. Africa has so much yellow cake they don't know what to do with it but destroy it.

The thing is he did. But in 2003 he didnt. He got rid of them after the first gulf war.

You're trying to play politics and I'm using my ****ing head here....
No im not. Im stating the truth.
All of this is backed up by validated sources.

re: ISIL seizes Saddam's chemical weapons plant

So, it's come to this.

Neocons/Bush lovers are so desperate to defend invading Iraq that they take the word of an al Qaeda splinter group over UN inspectors...pathetic.

That's interesting. You consider the National Ground Intelligence Center to be an al Qa'ida splinter group?

Man, that sucks. :( Turns out the Director of National Intelligence was leading up an AQ cell of massive proportions, and we never knew it.

re: ISIL seizes Saddam's chemical weapons plant

And why were those guards needed AFTER the invasion not before.

My guess would be something to do with the government that previously had sovereign control over that area having been removed from power.

Why was the same amount of yellowcake before the invasion the same amount after?

 because Saddam did not have and at the time was not seeking to stand up a production capacity.

re: ISIL seizes Saddam's chemical weapons plant

Lots of people owe Bush/Cheney a big apology.[/LEFT]

The only thing we owe Dick Cheney is life in prison without parole.

re: ISIL seizes Saddam's chemical weapons plant

The thing is he did. But in 2003 he didnt. He got rid of them after the first gulf war.

Yeah? Then how come we found hundreds of the damn things? Did he leave them in his other pants? And why would he think he still had some? Why would Iraqi's chemical Arty Bn's receive the "Go" order to launch, if they didn't think they could?

And that's why you people lose so much credibility in this debate. You are unable to disentangle your feelings towards the Bush administration from your analysis of the actual data available at the time.

Hell, I think that Obama has made a lot of radically unwise decisions that I disagreed with strongly at the time, but at least I retain the ability to sit down and understand how and why he came to them.

You are just swallowing the BS even more, I can find plenty of different sites that will acknowledge the fact that they knew about the yellow cake, had it under guard

I find it fascinating that every single time you try to engage me, cpwill, you immediately resort to personal insults. I have never seen a counterexample from you. Not one. Furthermore, your inability to address the points with reason and not emotion is a point in my favor. So I'll say it again: Cheney deserves life without parole.

Apparently you dont understand that these weapons are DISMANTLED and UNUSABLE.
"However, a survey of the site conducted by the Iraq Study Group determined the facility has since been dismantled, and that existing weapons stockpiles was sealed and unusable, the Journal said."
""Two wars, sanctions and Unscom oversight reduced Iraqi's premier production facility to a stockpile of old damaged and contaminated chemical munitions (sealed in bunkers), a wasteland full of destroyed chemical munitions, razed structures, and unusable war-ravaged facilities," the Iraq Study Group's 2004 report said, according to the Journal.

"According to U.S. officials, the seizure of the Muthanna complex, though attention grabbing, is meaningless as far as concerns for usage of chemical weapons goes."

I never said it wasn't guarded - I said it existed in Iraq and the only reason for that much is to create a nuclear bomb...

Of course it was under guard and highly inspected to make sure it wasn't already enriched - that is common sense.

My point is that IT SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE and the only reason for it to be there was to create a bomb - Get it now?

Weather or not it was guarded is irrelevant.

Yeah right - smart people can put them back together - I could.

The real cost is assembling these weapons - not reassembling the weapons.

Do you not understand that?

Wow. You must be so smart! You are currently outsmarting a lot of people! You should be able to get a really great job!

You could do no such thing.

You clearly show with your posts a distinct lack of skills needed to disseminate information effectively in any way, shape or form on even the most basic of subjects and concepts that the idea of you being able to reassemble complicated chemical weapons systems is not even off the deep end, it's off the deep end, the wharf and even completely losing sight of the shoreline.

When you've demostrated the ability to use basic comprehension, we'll discuss your chemical weapons prowess.

I'm smart enough to put something back together - especially with directions. However, that is not the point.

Uranium is easy - it's **** - so is enriching it if you're a ****ing Jihad terrorist that doesn't give a ****, a monkey could do that. Other weaponry takes skill but it has already been manufactured and putting together is nothing for the right guy.

****, I'm sure a gear-head could build a nice ride out of a junk yard but can that gear-head actually mold the parts for that car? NO but the analogy here is that the parts have already been molded - they've been produced and they just need to be reassembled NOT created - understand?

It's no different than building an IKEA product - more complicated - yes, but no different.

So instead of backing up anything you are just going to compare it to IKEA! :lamo
now i have seen it all. WMDs=IKEA furniture! :lamo
