Heya Apdst. :2wave: Yeah I heard the Daily Beast had a bunch of material on Bergdahl. Plus talked to some of those who had talked with Rolling Stone Mag.

At least six soldiers were killed searching for Bergdahl. Staff Sergeant Clayton Bowen and Private First Class Morris Walker were killed by an IED on August 18, 2009. Staff Sergeant Kurt Curtiss was killed on August 26. 2nd Lieutenant Darryn Andrews and Private First Class Matthew Michael Martinek were killed in the Yahya Khail District on September 4. Staff Sergeant Michael Murphrey was killed by an IED at the Forward Operating Base in Sharana on September 5.....snip~

Five Taliban leaders have arrived in Qatar after being freed from Guantanamo Bay in a swap deal for a US soldier held in Afghanistan for nearly five years.

The prisoners were flown by US military C-17 aircraft into the Gulf on Sunday. They were named on Saturday as Mohammad Fazl, Mullah Norullah Noori, Mohammed Nabi, Khairullah Khairkhwa and Abdul Haq Wasiq.

"I thank the government of Qatar, especially its emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad [Al Thani], who made sincere efforts for release of these leaders and for their mediation and for hosting them."

When Qatar takes the role of intermediary, it plays this role on a humanitarian basis which is the whole concept of Qatar foreign relations," he said.

The five Taliban are understood to be limited to living in Qatar for their first year of freedom, a condition that the Afghan government on Sunday said was against "international law" and called for their immediate release.

A White House official told Al Jazeera on Saturday that the US administration would not have transferred prisoners from Guantanamo "unless the threat they may pose to the US can be mitigated".

He said the Taliban prisoners would be "subject to restrictions on their movement and activities"......snip~

Now the Taliban will re-nig on the deal.....and they Still will refuse to talk to us other than thru Qatar. There goes BO's plan for Getting the Taliban to the table for Peace Talks.

This has nothing to do with peace talks. It's all about giving the press something other than the VA to talk about.

U.S. seeks prisoner swap with Taliban to free Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl.....

In an effort to free American captive Bowe Bergdahl before the bulk of U.S. forces leave Afghanistan this year, the Obama administration has decided to try to resume talks with the Taliban and sweeten an offer to trade Taliban prisoners held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, for the Army sergeant, current and former officials said.

To refresh the American offer, which has been on the table for more than two years, senior officials from the White House, the Pentagon, the State Department and other agencies decided within the past month to allow the simultaneous release of all five men. Taliban representatives had objected to the previous plan to release the prisoners by ones or twos as a test of Taliban and Qatari intermediaries’ ability to make sure the men did not return to militancy.

Two people familiar with the decision stressed that it was the Taliban that broke off negotiations nearly two years ago and that the U.S. door to talks has been open since. The renewed offer has not been formally made, and no State Department or other officials have immediate plans to travel to Doha, Qatar, where any contact facilitated by the Qatari government would take place.

The mid-January decision by officials at the level of deputy secretary would confine any new talks to the prisoner issue. Negotiations would not attempt wider engagement with the Taliban on a host of issues related to the future of Afghanistan. U.S. officials had once hoped to use the prisoner exchange as a means to build confidence for those larger discussions, which would also have involved the Afghan government. Now, the United States is primarily focused on getting Bergdahl home.

Bergdahl, an Army infantryman assigned to a unit from Alaska, was taken captive after walking off his base in the eastern province of Paktika, a decision that confounded his comrades and commanders in Afghanistan. The U.S. military launched a massive manhunt, fearing it would be nearly impossible to find him if his captors smuggled him into Pakistan. The Taliban soon took credit for capturing him and offered to release him in exchange for $1 million and 21 Afghan prisoners.

The Taliban broke off talks before they ever really began in 2012, and an effort to resurrect negotiations between the Taliban and the Afghan government last year ended in an embarrassing shambles. A political office promised to the Taliban was readied in Doha but closed two days after it opened in June amid a row over the raising of a flag the Taliban used when it ruled Afghanistan prior to the 2001 U.S. invasion.

Taliban representatives remain in Doha, and the office is a de facto political headquarters.....snip~

What does renig mean.

To "renig" is to go back on something.

In cards renigging often occurs when, for example, the players are forced to follow suit such as spades, and a player follows with a heart, but another spade leads, and the same player who played the heart plays a spade. In pinochle, it is penalized by forfeiture of the hand, and either you going set or your opponents automatically making their bid. In hearts, the player who renigs is forced to take 26 points, while the other players have no change to their score.....snip~

What the other funny part is. The Taliban isn't the ruling government of Afghanistan. Yet we are talking to them like they are. Imagine that!

Afghanistan Releases 65 Prisoners from Parwan Facility ......

Afghanistan has released 65 accused militants from a former U.S. detention facility near Bagram Air Base, despite warnings from the United States.

Afghan officials said Thursday that the prisoners were freed from the Parwan Detention Facility earlier in the day. Among those scheduled to be released was Mohammad Wali, whom the United States says is a Taliban explosives expert who targeted U.S. and Afghan forces.

The United States has protested the release of those prisoners since President Hamid Karzai announced several weeks ago that the prisoners' cases had been reviewed by the government and they had been cleared for release.

In comments to reporters during a visit to Ankara (,Turkey) Thursday, Mr. Karzai defended the release saying the action "is of no concern to the U.S."

Mr. Karzai says he hopes the U.S. will "stop harassing" Afghanistan's procedures and judicial authority and begin to respect the country's sovereignty. .....snip~

To be fare, we have to give Obama a brownie point for not using Air Force One to fly these five Taliban leaders to Qatar.

Wait a sec, has anyone looked at Air Force One's manifest for last weeks flight to Afghanistan ?

Nothing would surprise today.

Just think, we still have two more years and six months of more lies, cover ups and revelations to be exposed.

Re: Parents of fallen soldier: Our son died looking for Bergdahl and the military lie

It seems an odd story, suddenly a group of soldiers sworn to secrecy suddenly ignore the 'letter' they signed and so far at least with no names mentioned start making claims. I do note Bethea (now a CREATIVE writer teacher at Brooklyn College  ) who claims a fellow Officer died searching for Bowe Berdahl makes no claim of a 'letter'- did he claim he signed a non disclosure letter?

If the Army is making up a cover story for the search (why do that, I'd say America would eat-up the search for a missing American like they did the lies about Jessica Lynch) then the death of SSG Curtis is a lie as well... he is said to have died in a firefight to clear a hospital.

I'm a little leery of claiming the deaths of American combat troops in firefights for hospitals and IEDs while on vehicle patrol is the same as searching for Berdahl.

It will be interesting to see with the soldiers step forward and publicly make their claims.

Sort of reminds me of Jessica Lynch where the World Nutt Dully printed the bio Ms. Lynch penned claims her bones were beaten by her guards until splintered, and she was raped and sodomized repeatedly. WND 11/06/2003

The Army tried to say she fought back hard, was stabbed and shot, only surrendering when she ran out of ammo.... :doh

She infact was treated well by her captors, given medical treatment and her 'rescue' was a staged PR stunt.

Then there is Pat Tillman and the coverup on how he died, which had even the eventually disgraced General McChrystal helping conceal the 'friendly' fire incident.

But none of them could keep the 'secret' for longer than a month- this one was held up for 5 years, and one about what the whistle blowers all consider a deserter...

I'm going to wait and see if the accusers are named and if Bethea's story about how LT. Andrews can be verified by the Officers running the 'search'... :peace

The Afghanistan government was shifting towards democracy in the 1950s and 60s before the Taliban took over. Women could work, become educated, dress casually and use many of the modern day services that men could.

Makes me wonder WTH we didn't stomp these roaches into sand long before now. Guess we didn't see that slippery slope lefties claim doesn't exist. :(

No, it wasn't the Army or the Pentagon who made that claim. That story was started by someone else who passed it on to the Washington Post. Rumor has it that their source was a Congressman from Lynch's home state. The Pentagon never said anything about what Lynch did.

But any old lie will do to s*** on the American military.

I've been reading pieces posted on the web of those who "served" with Bergdahl. They paint this guy as a dissenter and the blood of those lost looking for him is on his head.

This has to be the first we ever negotiated with a terrorist organization instead of a government for the release of an American. Damn if that doesn't set a new all time low for precedence in the future. Can't think of anything that would empower the enemy more! Assholes.

In reading up on this, its infuriating. The wiki article on Bergdahl also states diverted resources used in searching for him was the reason a combat outpost was delayed in being built, which led to another 8 Americans being killed. I remember when that happened, one of my Paramedic students had a friend killed there. Im pissed.
