Reports: Former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer wins bidding for Clippers with NBA-record

Re: Seattle clippers

Ballmer? I suppose he wants to be like Paul Allen. I bet he will rename the team the Seattle Windows.

(I met Ballmer many many years ago, he's a dick)

He will not move the team to Seattle.

Re: Seattle clippers

Sterling bought the team for 12 million and sold it for 2 billion. His punishment for his racist remark is making nearly 2 billion dollars in profit.

Perhaps he did it on purpose so he could make that kind of money, the shrewd man.

The Clippers are not moving.

Allen has been a great owner with the Seahawks and the Sounders. Seattle deserves an NFL team. Heck, they can have our always broke hockey team while they are at it.

Re: Seattle clippers

Sterling's wife is selling it. I don't agree with sterling being forced to sell his team, but he is going to make a killing. His team was worth $500 mill and he is getting $2 bill. That is a nice haul. Just wondering what the capital gains tax bill will be for him,.

does she own the team? i didn't think she had a stake in the team? if she doesn't own 51% of it she can't sell.

Report: Former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer submits NBA-record $2 billion bid for Los Angeles Clippers

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nba-b...pers-for-nba-record--2-billion-234227311.html

Can't believe someone would pay 2 bill for the clippers. Deal needs to get approved but it should go through. Good luck to balmer. My guess is he moves the team to seattle.

yes 2 billion is insane for a pro team. i'm glad its going to someone other then a former NBA player(s).

donald should should say yes to it even thou i think the NBA was trying to steal the team from him.

Re: Seattle clippers

It would actually be a smart move to relocate to Seattle though, and rename them the Supersonics. The Clippers have always been third fiddle to the Lakers. A lot of people don't even know who the Clippers are, but everyone knows who the Lakers are. The Seattle Supersonics had a great fan base, and only lost their team because of politics and stadium one-upsmanship.

While all of that is true, 2.2 billion for a team in Los Angeles may eventually make some sense. 2.2 billion for a team in Seattle would never make sense. He will not attempt to move the team to Seattle, and even if he did, the NBA would never allow it.

Actually he owns the Portland Trailblazers. He does not own the Seattle Sounders.

California is a community property state. She owns half of everything he owns.

ok so she only owns 50% of the team i read another article on this.

the team belongs to the trust of which sterling is co-owner. that means any sale or anything else that comes out of the trust he has to approve.
according to the article he is not approving the sale.

so she can't sell the team without his permission.

50% is not 51%.

Except, according to the NBA by-laws, which he agreed to abide by, the NBA can force him to sell the team. He's out. It may take a while as he engages in fruitless court challenges, but he's done.

Re: Seattle clippers

I was hoping Larry Ellison would get it. Guy has some serious dough...

He's about to lose some of it. The state of Oregon is suing his ass off for the failed Cover Oregon site and Oracle's lies.

Re: Seattle clippers

I can't believe it got sold for that much. It was a distressed sale. You don't pay full price for a gallon of milk that expires tomorrow.

Re: Seattle clippers

I can't believe it is being sold to another white guy.

He might be a closet racist too.

I guess they are going to have to tap his phones to find out. </sarcasm>

Allen could always move his Blazers to Seattle.

$662 million is what I heard on the radio

Actually, he didn't break any of the bylaws of the NBA constitution, so he would have a fight if he does go that route. But damn, $2 billion! He would be crazy to pass that up.

His peers are laughing all the way to the bank.

Actually Allen is a silent partner if this article is accurate...

Seattle Sounders opening own business operations, breaking off from Seahawks

Despite the new arrangement, Seahawks owner Paul Allen’s ownership status has not currently changed, a Sounders spokesman told SI.com when reached via email for clarification. Allen, Microsoft’s co-founder, was instrumental in bringing MLS to Seattle.
