Reports: Former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer wins bidding for Clippers with NBA-record

Re: Seattle clippers

Actually Allen is a silent partner if this article is accurate...

Seattle Sounders opening own business operations, breaking off from*Seahawks | Planet Futbol - SI.com

Seattle Sounders opening own business operations, breaking off from Seahawks

He owns a small percentage of the Sounders. They are primarily owned by Joe Roth and Drew Carey. They shared some administrative staff with the Seahawks, and that is the relationship that has ended.

Exactly...

Re: Seattle clippers

Allen could always move his Blazers to Seattle.

We live in hope. Highly unlikely, however, given the arena situations in the two cities.

Re: Seattle clippers

Except, according to the NBA by-laws, which he agreed to abide by, the NBA can force him to sell the team. He's out. It may take a while as he engages in fruitless court challenges, but he's done.

No the NBA cannot force him to sell the team.

I just read that he has been deemed mentally unfit to run the trust but that can be fought in court which.

i wouldn't be so certain the legal requirements are a bit messy but there are things in the NBA that would still allow him to keep the team.

Re: Seattle clippers

Actually he owns the Portland Trailblazers. He does not own the Seattle Sounders.

I thought he had money in on the Sounders.

In any case, they are a damn well run team.

Re: Seattle clippers

Guess that'll teach Donald Sterling.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm with you on this one. Sterling just made 1.5 billion. How that is supposed to be some sort of punishment is beyond me.

Re: Seattle clippers

I'm surprised the NBA didn't push for a black owner.

I saw something about Oprah and Geffen's offer coming in at 1.4 billion. Ballmer basically said beat this...

That's how we punish the rich, by giving them more money....lol

Re: Seattle clippers

Yeah, mo' money mo' problems yo!

I couldn't believe this morning when I heard what Ballmer was going too pay for a ball team... $2 billion. I remember when those teams went for $80 million, and I thought that was high, then it was a couple $hundred million and I thought that was absurd. They must make money hand over fist?

They got a lot of money, for sure. When you have $20 Billion+, I guess dropping $2 Billion on a sports team to him is like you or I going and buying a new car.

He's worth that much? And I just heard this afternoon that he was ruled as incompetent? Either the poor old guy has dementia or he's playing the Media, pretty well. I believe once you learn how to make a certain amount of money, it begins a momentum that just keeps bringing it in.

Ballmer is worth $20 Billion+, not Sterling. I think Sterling is only worth a paltry ~$2 Billion.

Ahh yes, that makes more sense. I knew Ballmer was well off being part founder of Microsoft. I'd be happy with $2 million.

Re: Seattle clippers

He does have a little money in the Sounders. And yes, they are an incredibly well run team. I think you can make the argument that the 3 northwest teams (and I'm including Vancouver in that grouping, even though they are southwest Canada) have been instrumental in putting the MLS on its feet.

And yet we have M's to remind us of what a terribly run franchise is like.

Are the Mariners terribly run? Or have they just not won anything? There is a difference. Most people don't even know what the Seattle Sounders are, but apparently they are well run. The Mariners are at least playing a sport in a league that people watch.

The Sounders average almost 40k per home and and sometimes sell the Clink out. I'd say someone is watching.
